Nice Find.

Remember it maybe later than 1851. 10 year anniversary etc. Check the hallmarks.

Thats an Excellent find......Colonial customs such as requiring the family of the deceased to give gifts of mourning rings or gloves to mourners. This practice is documented as far back as the Middle Ages, when money was set aside in wills to purchase mourning rings for certain family members and friends. The mourning rings would often have a small receptacle in the center for a locket of hair from the deceased.
