Greetings swinging dirtfishers.
I hunted a new spot today shown on an old platt map that is just cornfield now.
I think the token says 1865, Kind of bad shape but it was still fun to find one that old.
The clay marbles where an eyeball find on top of the ground.
I had to end the hunt due to a heavy downpour. I will be heading back there soon before the corn gets too high.
Thanks for looking and best luck to all, Merf

Merf, I didn't even notice the clay marbles when I originally glanced at your post. My uncle and I were talking about finding one at our sites one of these days. You have a GREAT eye for surface relics, buddy!

Good stuff!

The token is a Civil War "store card" issued in 1863 by George B. Ames, "Dealer in Drugs, Books, &c" in Belvidere, Illinois.

Thanks for the ID PBK   It is much appreciated.
Do you know what the &c stands for?

Do you know what the &c stands for? Here is one I found a while back that says &c also.

Just an old-fashioned form of etc. or et cetera— Latin for, "and the rest."

Great finds, Merf!

Excellent ID, PBK.

I think the Jew's Harp is an interesting find. Except for the early Colonial sites, I only find harmonica reeds. Seems like the Jew's Harp waned in popularity after 1800-1820ish... But there you have a CW-era one. Being a musician, I'd love to find one. I've watched buddies dig them, but never could get over one.

The heart piece is interesting too. It's about the same size as the one I dug last Tuesday. Is it lead-filled or just stamped brass? (Hoping for lead-filled. )

Congrats,

Buckleboy

Thanks Buck ----That is my first Jew's harp.
The heart is just stamped brass with no markings.

Thanks Goldenone , Dan , and Billy

Sweet bunch of finds, Merf. But I must admit I like your pics just as much. Don't you love that "fresh green" of spring? (Well, early summer, now.) The coins and clay marbles are excellent. Love the Indian head watch fob, too.
