Greetings swinging dirtfishers.
I hunted a new spot today shown on an old platt map that is just cornfield now.
I think the token says 1865, Kind of bad shape but it was still fun to find one that old.
The clay marbles where an eyeball find on top of the ground.
I had to end the hunt due to a heavy downpour. I will be heading back there soon before the corn gets too high.
Thanks for looking and best luck to all, Merf

Great finds as always Merf. I love hunting the open fields. So much easier than woods hunting.

Merf, you are on a frickin' roll with those coppas. You're patience and persistence pays off in big dividends...just about every hunt. You always make me proud, buddy!

You and your crew are showing the rest of us how it is done when it comes to Coppas.
You make me proud to follow your fine example.

That token may be a Civil War Token, private issue during the Civil War. They were issued by private merchants to deal with the coin shortage. Can any Civil War Token collectors out there verify??

Nice finds. Looks like someone burned the hole through that LC with a cutting torch.

Thanks Unclejesse
About 30% of the LCs I have found were holed-----Wish I knew why.

EDDE-----I wish I could read mine----I can only make out a few words.

Good stuff!

The token is a Civil War "store card" issued in 1863 by George B. Ames, "Dealer in Drugs, Books, &c" in Belvidere, Illinois.

Very Nice Find. I wish there was a Corn Field near my town. WTG . It's a beautifull sight.

Great finds, Merf!

Excellent ID, PBK.

I think the Jew's Harp is an interesting find.  Except for the early Colonial sites, I only find harmonica reeds.  Seems like the Jew's Harp waned in popularity after 1800-1820ish...  But there you have a CW-era one.  Being a musician, I'd love to find one.  I've watched buddies dig them, but never could get over one.

The heart piece is interesting too. It's about the same size as the one I dug last Tuesday. Is it lead-filled or just stamped brass? (Hoping for lead-filled. )

Congrats,

Buckleboy
