Eastern Kansas dug, about 6” under soil. Whenever I get frustrated with the trash Im digging up, I just think of when I pulled this out of the ground and remember how it’s all worth the struggles.
Awesome!!! Congrats!!! When was it dug?

That is a killer find in killer condition! Does it have the hook and bar on the back?

Sorry I should’ve posted a picture of the backside in my original post. Just the bar is there, luckily the front of the buckle is in better condition than the back

I love those panel plate militia buckles, and that's a nice one. I dug one with a star motif a couple years ago. It was down a foot and a half standing on edge. When I wiggled it free and pulled it out, I fully expected to have a piece of trash in my hand. Boy what a pleasant surprise!

Same here when I first pulled it out I thought I had a piece of trash flat metal, then once I wiped the dirt away and saw the eagle and shield I knew I had something very good. Ended up emailing pics and dimensions to a civil war collector/appraiser in Georgia and got it confirmed to be of civil war era which makes sense for my region of Eastern Kansas.

What a great looking plate! I love the eagle design on this type. Congratulations!

Great save on a great piece of History. That is one cool looking Eagle Plate. It is in good shape too. This will look very nice in your display.

It’s rare to find any attachments at all on them, so that’s a super great find!
