1838 Matron Head Large Cent

Had a long hunt with SouthJerseyJim at a couple of his pounded sites. I came away with a very nice 1838 large and a few buttons along with a very fried Indian. No pics of the buttons, left my collecting pouch in the truck. Jim had a handful of buttons. Artie

That large cent has a beautiful green patina! Nice to see one come out of the ground in that kind of shape!

See what I mean about that field Art. You go there one day and find a button. And go there another day and boom a copper loud as can be at 6". That field has been pounded so hard I can't believe there are any signals. yet we go again and again and pull coppers...I know theres another flowing hair laying on its side somewhere out there.

One of the nicest large cents I have seen in a long time! (BTW, it is not a Braided Hair, it is a Coronet or Matron Head)
