Worked for just a couple hours today then my buddy from work and I headed over to the same spot we have been going in Winchester, VA. Just started out kinda walking to the spot I was headed to and snagged 3 CW bullets on the way. 2 sharps and a spencer or a 3 ringer...can't tell. Finally got over to the spot and instantly started digging a few flat buttons and some broken up tombac buttons. Got a deep sounding tone and figured either a square nail or a deep bullet, turned out to be a copper down about 13 inches. My best guess is a New Jersey state copper, just from the design on the front. It's really worn though. Picked up a few more buttons after that along with a burnside. Worked my way over to the top of this hill probably about 25 feet from where I found my 1836 large cent this past Sunday. Well I get a GOOD signal of 81-82 and thought for sure either a silver quarter or a large cent. And indeed it was another large cent. This one is in awesome shape and is an 1832. Walked over to my buddy and showed him my finds and told him my goodbyes 'cause I was about done, but walking back out of the field I get a good hit and it turned out to be a NICE decorative 2 piece button with a lot of gold gilt left. That was a great way to end the hunt for sure! Well guys thanks for looking and happy hunting!!

Thanks for looking and sounds good to me!

Hopefully Don chimes in on this. It does resemble a NJ copper, but the more I compare it to others it's kinda not matching up, but does match in a way. I don't know! It's weird that it's kinda "peeling" back as you can see in the picture. Possibly a counterfeit? Who knows. Definitely a coin I'm sure.

I have no idea what it is, almost 99.999% positive it is not a NJ, also, noticed looks like a raised dot around 11 o'clock position, if so that might help ID it. I know of no NJ with a dot. Those marks that remind us of plow handles, just do not match anything I recognize.

Thanks, Don. I figured the more I compared it wasn't matching up. I saw the two things at the bottom that looked like plow handles and above it kinda resembles a horse, but maybe my eyes are fooling me. It will probably be one of those mystery coppers.

You are a digging machine with that F75 Matt!!! Super finds Bud. I especially like the gold gilded button. HH, Q.

Thanks, Quindy. I don't know what I would do without my F75. Cry, I'm sure. lol Thanks for looking. HH.

By the way, the gold gilted button still has the thread cloth in the shank loop.

Fantastic finds--multiple coppers and some really nice buttons. A great day in my book.

I suggested that dot might help, I think you might be correct, a KGIII of some type, look hard on the reverse side for any indication of any detail, especially a date bar. Since the vast majority of the KGIII Halfpence found here are counterfeits, each one will have differences so do not worry about perfect alignments of letters, dots, etc.........
