First and foremost, congratulations on a stellar find! That is one beautiful coin! :headbang: Secondly: How dare you cheat us out of a good digging story? :'( A find of this caliber is deserving of at least 10 lines of text. Not just a "got out today, found this, thanks for looking." It's a little too cold for me to hunt today, so I'm trying to get my digging fix by reading these posts. :laughing9: Spice it up a little next time.

HH!! :hello:

Sorry about the lousy narrative guys (and girls). When I first posted this, the sizing on the pictures was ridiculously large and I was trying to resize them so all of you could appreciate this coin. I wasn't really thinking about what I wrote...I just gave the short version. To be honest, there really isn't much of a story to tell.

Like many others here, I've been getting a bit of cabin fever lately plus a few recent family emergencies had me ready to get out by myself and hit the fields and woods to see what I could find and just clear my head. I am very fortunate in that I have two significant properties I routinely hunt that add up to approximately 1000 acres so I am never at a loss for places to go. I shot over to one of the places where I have found artifacts from the Revolutionary War all the way up to recent clad so it can get exciting when I get a strong signal because I never know which era the artifact is from. I was searching a normally tall grassy area that was flattened by a recent snowfall getting a few signals but nothing great. Near the edge of this area, my MXT rang out a solid 88 and produced a terrific "ping" in my ears. I dug my plug approximately 3-4" down and when I popped out the wedge I saw this beauty sitting on edge. My first thought was, "Damn, I wish I had my camera" followed quickly by, "Damn, I wish my hunting buddies were here with me to witness this".

This is a first for me so needless to say I am very pleased with this find! For a coin that is 180 years old, I think it's in pretty nice shape. So like I said, there isn't much of a story...just a lucky hit in a small section of 1000+ acres. This is the site that keeps giving! I'll try to post a photo of a Rev. War pin I found there tomorrow. Happy Hunting one and all!

I need your help guys. Like Mountainman2 suggested, does anyone know if this is the large or small letter variety of this coin? Apparently it affects the value quite a bit. Thanks for your help!

Gorgeous!!! Love the Bust coins. This is a fantastic save! Congrats! :hello2:

Amazing find!!

I'm not sure about the small/large letters but based on what I've looked at it seems to be large. Either way my redbook says that both large/small letters are worth the same amount.

Wow,amazing condition. It would be worth having it graded.

gorgeous coin! congrats man!

Man that is a beauty.

Still on my wish list.

Thanks Birdman....I thought about having it graded, but if you take a close look, there is a ding in it just above the head which, correct me if I'm wrong, would remove a large part of the value. I'm still happy with the find though!

Happy Hunting!
