Background on the site:
To find and secure permission for this site took some doing. Dan(Danimal) did all the legwork(thanks Dan). We got a tip from the old groundskeeper of the old campground we hunted back in January. His tip lead us up and down a road with no real clues other than an abandon road. Just as we were about to leave we happen across an older guy riding his John Deer Tractor. So Dan pulls over and chats with the guy who informs us “that there’s private property”. We explain yes we know and blah blah blah. Anyway, we get a name of who he believes owns the property and go on home. Dan then looked through a lot of maps, made lot’s of phone calls and ultimately secured permission for us to hike back and hunt the place.
The Hunt:
Yesterday we hit the 1800’s stagecoach stop and tavern. Dave(Zoso) met Nate and I at Dan’s house and we headed out to the site. To Dan’s house it is about an hour and another two hours to the site. When we got there we were fortunate to get better instructions from a guy who let us park in his driveway. I’m glad we got better directions as it would have been hard relying on old maps. It still was a major trek up some steep hills, down a ravine and across a creek. We hunted the site for a few hours. We each found some interesting relics, beer cans, nails and such but no coins. So the vote went to Plan B. Plan B was the old campground where previously Dan, I and Nate had found some nice old coins at. Hunted that site until dark(couple hours).
All in all - another adventure. But I think I am going to take a break from these long trek type of hunts. Give me a park with lot’s of clad, rings, pull tabs and stuff. One that you can just get out of your car and start hunting right away. 8)
