These are my finds from Saturday and Sunday. I found the barber pretty shallow (~3 inches) which makes me wonder what I'm missing at these awesome sites I'm on. I also dug a low 50s signal that was a shallow (again 3in) 1903 Indian head stuck to a ball of iron. It's currently in olive oil as it had caked on crud. Seemed good condition underneath though. I'm aware that the olive oil may leech over time and remain acidic

The barrel spigot was on the surface of a yard and the kid I had tagging along said he found it in an old shack down the hill. So I had some help on that one.

Any ideas on what I guess is a lead seal? Also I'm thinking the broach is just gold plated judging by the green on its back. I didn't see any markings

Something I've noticed is that a lot of my finds in these iron infested yards are relatively shallow compared to the posts I see on some coins found at parks. It's been a long time since I dug a deep coin that reassured my faith in the AT pros depth. I'm assuming this is because shallow targets are masking ones that are deeper.

Very nice Barber! I like the fact that you made a note of the day you found it and where you found it. I always do that with any good coin I find. Good idea to keep a record of your finds. Record keeping also helps you figure out which spots are good to you and which ones stink!
I've actually started keeping a journal of every time I go detecting. Even though I don't always find something, I always have a great day in great weather usually in a very historic place

I just started detecting last September and have kept a journal since day 1. I log the location, the length of the hunt, the area of the site, and my finds and vdi's of anything good. I'm not a vdi watcher but I do like to have an idea as to what something may ring up so I know in the future. The other thing that's been helpful is to take pics of my pics on my iPad and have separate albums for each site. It's a great habit for new diggers to get into to keep a journal. It will eventually show patterns and it's just nice to have everything logged so you can go back and see the details. This is the cheap log book I use.

As far as being able to hunt down south, that's not so true in Arkansas. There is only 2" of ice that is not melting quickly. Its been so bad here that the kids may get out of school in July. This weather has not allowed me to use my new md and that makes me mad.
