These are my finds from Saturday and Sunday. I found the barber pretty shallow (~3 inches) which makes me wonder what I'm missing at these awesome sites I'm on. I also dug a low 50s signal that was a shallow (again 3in) 1903 Indian head stuck to a ball of iron. It's currently in olive oil as it had caked on crud. Seemed good condition underneath though. I'm aware that the olive oil may leech over time and remain acidic

The barrel spigot was on the surface of a yard and the kid I had tagging along said he found it in an old shack down the hill. So I had some help on that one.

Any ideas on what I guess is a lead seal? Also I'm thinking the broach is just gold plated judging by the green on its back. I didn't see any markings

Something I've noticed is that a lot of my finds in these iron infested yards are relatively shallow compared to the posts I see on some coins found at parks. It's been a long time since I dug a deep coin that reassured my faith in the AT pros depth. I'm assuming this is because shallow targets are masking ones that are deeper.

Congrats.Those are really awesome finds.HH

Nice finds there, Congrats and HH!

Nice finds congrats! Beautiful barber! If your referring to the lead disc on the second row, everything I've read says they were clothing weights. They were sewed into clothing for whatever purpose. I've found half a dozen or so in different sizes.

Thanks hunting deer! I was actually asking about the smaller lead circle that has a raised "Q" on one side and numbers on the other. I have also read that about the other item being used as dress weights in the victorian era but I also heard that larger sizes were used in window drapes

Cool funds. You're killing it down south. I am just hoping for some thawed ground by the weekend.

Your round lead item is a cloth or bale seal. The letter is likely inspector Q and the number the length or weight of the textile it was attached to.
Looks like somebody walking over that area dropped one of the coins from their collection on the ground and you found it.
Just kidding.. that coin doesn't look like it's been outside a week.. Must be some great conditions for preservation over there.
I dug this bale seal just a couple days ago

. I'm not nearly as lucky I guess because the soil was not as kind to my Liberty Head nickel I found the same day. 1912
Hopefully the silver from that spot looks better

The round disc is a seam weight either for a dress, or they were also used for window drapes. Great finds!

Nice Barber.

Great finds, maybe the AT Pro is not finding deep targets for you because your coil just has not passed over one? Sweet find a Barber Quarter, I'd be doing the Diggers dance! ha

Nice silver !

Very nice Barber! I like the fact that you made a note of the day you found it and where you found it. I always do that with any good coin I find. Good idea to keep a record of your finds. Record keeping also helps you figure out which spots are good to you and which ones stink!
