1800s 'creek house' hunt.

I have a site down by a creek where I found on an old map where a lone house used to be. (1802ish map) so after digging countless trash the river brought up thru floods, I started getting better targets. I dug copper wires corroded, square nails, lead balls, brick fragments, pottery frags, broken buttons, gun furniture, glass, bead, ac parts, and coins!

On the path up I started to hit newer coins, and about 30 corroded pennys.

Someone's been raiding a coin collection. Those coins have not spent much (if any) time in the ground. The toning on those looks a lot like the IH and Buffalo nickels that I have in my collection (non-dug).

Killer spot!!!

Probably it's a dump site. And a sander cleans them flat.

My grandpa back in the day found a 1820 coin set, and a 1915 coin set in plasti around this location

The large cents he pulled from the ground with his gold coin banner find over a year ago also have the "Non-dug" patina to them as well. HMMM...??

You're saying you dug those nickels?

Something strange going on here.

"Plasti" certainly you couldn't mean plastic. An 1820 coin set in a plastic holder? Modern plastic (Bakelite)was not invented until 1907, clear plastics, like styrene were not widely used until the 1940s.

Please help me understand...
