I tried a new spot today. I was pleasantly surprised to find an early and productive site. Not bad for a 75 minute hunt.

The total haul:
A nice hair pin, and mostly marked buttons. A great owl themed book clasp was the cherry on top.

Great hunt Scrappy! The picture of the KG in the dirt....I cant get enough of that "fresh out of the ground" green patina!

Congrats on the old buckle. It looks just like the one in the book.

Coins and buttons too.

I am liking that owl also.

Best to you sir!

Nice early buckle Steve. Looks like you have a new spot to pound too. It also looks like you have come back down to earth on copper quality after that Nova :laughing7:

Wow great hunt congrats! Always nice to find a new productive site. Also I NEED that buckle book! Sitting in my amazon cart forever!!

The 'owl' thing is an 18th C furniture back plate for a drawer pull handle. Unlikely to be an owl as its on its edge. It was just the type of punched decor they used.

Yep Steve, those coppers really reflect what 75% of my 150-200 Coppers look like. Lol. I guess if one were to count, it would be the Nova, so I'm
Ok with these;)

I had some question in my own head about that. The thickness for one, and the cruder filing job in comparison to my other book-clasp examples. And, all of my previous clasps also broke at the hinge or became separated from the book edge. I suppose I ignored all that. Lesson learned. Nice catch!

Great group of finds Steve. A Vermont copper is high on my list but I have a feeling I'll never find one at least not around here. Congrats on your 17th century buckle too.

Very nice buckle

A Vermont copper is on my list, but one I can identify. I've found two and they're both tore up! Lol. You'll get one, maybe this spring;)

Another great hunt, congratulations! :notworthy:

Killer stuff buddy! I thought I responded to this but it must've been in a text. I've never found that style buckle. You know how I feel about 17th century finds. They're in a League of their own my man. Ive found a few 1600s buckles but still am looking for that style. Those Vt coppers are tough finds as well

Very productive for a 75 min hunt Steve, the 17th century asymmetric buckle takes the cake for sure!

Thanks Jon - I still need to make it back for another after work hunt. Maybe there's other Goodies that old
