1798-1803 LC's and 1829 BIG SILVER!

Have this post for my brother in law, DigginitRTB, who incidently snuck out without me today, and found these 3 Beauties. The 1798 was found a couple feet away from where I found the 1787 Conn. Copper yesterday. The 1803 and 1829 BIG!!!!! silver were found at another foundation nearby. I, personally, have yet to find a capped bust coin let alone a 50cent piece. Don or IP, if you read this, the "5" on the back, has a short top to it. Is this a die variation? It is definitely struck like this. It's hasn't been nicked or wiped off, it's just missing 1/2 of the top of the 5. You can see it in the scan. Anyways, CONGRATULATIONS big time to Richie! We've got a couple of weeks left to detect up here before frost hits so I guess we have to hit it hard. CYA Sunday Dickie, Right?

I can truthfully say, even without meeting your brother in law, DigginitRTB, that I don't like him. not a bit. To sneak of without you. Or me. Then, to have the audacity to have you post his finds for him. Nope, liking him less and less. Not getting invited to Thanksgiving dinner. No Christmas cards, no "Happy New Years!" from this here detectorist.
Great finds, by the way.
Still hate him.

Your BIL had a great day for sure, 3 beautiful finds. The Bust Half with the stubby 5 is not unusual from what I see, on Heritage Auction site I gave a quick look and right away I saw a few with that shorted top to the 5, so evidently a known die variation, and most likely on several varieties.

Awesome stuff. That's why it's so exciting hunting in the Berkshires - the chance to find stuff like this! ;D

BTW Hogge, I know some tips I can teach you.

Fun, fun, fun. Good luck on your next hunt.

Wow, excellent, never saw an old copper come out of the ground so chocolate brown from our area.....very nice, and very nice job keeping hairline scratches (it's so hard to avoid them sometimes, especially when it's a tough woods hunt) off of the half........

I believe the short tip of the five is an "Overton" variety although not sure of the variety number.

Nice job, congrats!

HH all!
