Scouted out an area in the woods and was fortunate enough to find a site.
Dug this 1796 Liberty Cap around the southern end of the cellar hole, and it's got some really nice detail for a dug coin.
Also got a knee buckle frame and an unusual amount of large flat buttons. No GWs yet though.

Wow...you don't screw around! That copper is in incredible condition. I'm just a little bit jealous....OK....maybe really, really jealous!!! Congrats on a very productive hunt.

Awesome coin! I don't recall seeing anyone posting one of those is such good condition! Congrats! :occasion14:

Damn man that’s a gorgeous copper. Great job.

What a beautiful Liberty Cap, congrats! It looks like you've found a 1796 S-88, with a rarity of 4.

In 2012 I found my only Liberty Cap LC, and coincidentally mine was the very same 1796 S-88. My coin was in rough condition, pretty typical of the average Liberty Cap posted here. As you can see, the date was not even visible. Still its a coin I treasure and its one of my favorite finds ever.

Any 1796 U.S. Large Cent in this condition should be considered to be very scarce indeed. The Mint introduced our Flowing Hair Cents in 1796, and most of them are at least uncommon. The Capped Bust fades off to history, but what a remarkable example you have discovered. With the 1793 Chain, and the 1793 Wreath Cents recently unearthed, this coin complements those rarities perfectly. Simply a beautiful piece, Congratulations ! I hope this prize and the Wreath Cent both make the Banner !!

Treasure right there. Thanks for posting it

What a beautiful early Large Cent! 1700's US coins are tough to come by, Congrats!

Dang! How'd you get it that clean? Awesome find!
