So I went back to the field I got 5 coppers last week. Did the same patch just changed grid from east west to north south. 40x60 area for 3 hours, low and slow. Got 17 more buttons and some great buckles.
I had a sneaking suspicion that although I was told "I wouldn't be the first", well sorry whoever came before me, you didn't find a thing as far as I can tell. Thanks.

Site was the original town hall for the founding of the town (I believe) which e plains the vast amount of buttons I dug (27 total) almost all from the same patch. Also 7 coppers (8 really, my buddy dug one today, also his oldest coin) and finally the real I knew had to be there. Unfortunately the 1/2 real was squished but I managed to recover almost all of it. Including the date, it would of been a super crisp coin if it was intact.

Also dug an 1802 draped bust and a shocking 1796 liberty cap large cent! Holy !!!

Happy hunting out there!

The condition of that beautiful 1796 dirty penny completely makes up for the condition of the much more common Spanish coin.

I'm so jealous right now, I can barely pull up a flat button at the moment :laughing7:. Congrats!!!

Hey great find. It must be the day for large cent coins because I found one today as well. I posted it in today's fines, a 1797. Congratulations again

Sweet finds, congratulations! :occasion14:
