Relic Hunting
KKC got out today for our usual Sunday Colonial relic hunt. Last week, Kyle and I drove by the F. tavern site that has produced 23 coppers this year for us. The hay was cut!!! You can only guess where the KKC crew would be sweeping today.

Once we got on the site, our passions were boiling with the fever. I think I even heard Zeus saying, "I got the fever BAD!" Kyle was muttering something under his breath that pertained to Chain cents or George Washington buttons. It was not long before we got our 1st great target of the day.

As the day progressed and my pouch was filled with relics, I still had not found a copper yet. That was when it happened. I got an iffy "Dime" hit that sounded like a piece of iron. I started to dig and upon scanning the dirt, I could not find the target. I re-scanned the hole and it was giving a "Dollar" hit, but that, too, sounded like a big piece of iron...I kept digging, until I flipped out a large copper. I did not even have to pick it up and I knew what I had. I yelled over to Zeus, "Copper! I got a THICKY!" Kyle ran over and started to scratch the dirt off and revealed a perfect 1794 Liberty Cap large cent!!! We were all whooping it up, just like the tavern-goers did 210 years ago. The coin was in the same hole with a piece of iron.

Another hour later, I got a nice "Dime" hit and after 5" of dirt, I had a nice 1817 Coronet cent. The day soon ended after that! It does not get any better than a day at the F. tavern!!! Drinks on me, folks!

Keep the passion high!

Kirk

D. Man,

Wooohooooo, I knew you would enjoy the KKC adventure team's digs. You have always been a firm supporter of our group and I want to thank you, my friend. We know there are over 40 coppers at this site, but the plow would have to help us out some more. The field is no longer tilled, but that ain't stopping KKC from digging the ancient coppas! :icon_thumleft:

There have been such a variety of coppers dug at this site. From King George IIs-IIIs, Conn. copper, NJ copper, Draped Busts, Coronets, and now a Liberty Cap, this site is tops. :headbang:

I want Flowing Hair silver now! :D

Keep the everlasting Colonial passion as high as ever!

Kirk,
Sweet 1794.

Those early coppers are among my favorites when it comes to colonials.
Thanks for sharing.
