I had an unbelievable hunt this evening. Any one of the 1787 CT Copper, US Bit Boss, UNBELIEVABLE condition 1827 US Large Cent, Toasted KG II, Civil War Infantry cuff button, OR Shoe buckle frame would have stood on their own and made my hunt.
I hit 4 firsts today:
First State copper
First Civil War Infantry Button
First US Bit Boss
First KG II
This site has been producing finds from the early 1700's, until the mid to late 1800's. In the past I have dug two KG I's and a KG III there... now the KG II tonight. In the bottom left of the stool is a small bone and next to that is a HUGE Claw! I thought it was a K-9 tooth at first, but on the other side it appears to be a large claw. I'll be putting some of the iron through electrolysis. The hook is hand forged and will look great all cleaned up.

Hands down, the best condition Large Cent I have ever dug. This thing came from the mint, and went right into the ground! I am unsure if I want to remove the rest of the dirt. It has an amazing green patina and I really enjoy the contrast between the green and the dirt still on it.
1787 Connecticut State Copper! I thought this was a KG II when it came out and I tossed it between cotton balls in a film canister. An hour later I stopped for some water and decided to pull it back out.... I could tell it was a pretty solid coin, so I made a field toothpick with a piece of cut dry grass and revealed "Connec" and fired off an email to Bill D. He got back to me and verified I indeed had just dug my first state copper... Connecticut. SO AWESOME!
Its toasty, but it has enough to identify... Its a KGII and I was hoping for a date, but its a little too far gone.
And the dirty pictures for those that like them!
This was my first signal of the day and really set the tone for this hunt. It looked amazing, so I snapped a few pictures and wrapped it in a paper towel. It was about 10 inches deep and after getting it home and cleaning it, I see that I made a small nick in the front with my digger.
That iron was TOTALLY masking this LC. It was a crappy high iron signal and I started pulling out pieces of sheet iron. Typically my machine locks onto LC's, but I never heard this one at all. After clearing out most of the iron, my pin pointer was telling me there was one more thing in there. I couldnt believe it when I pulled this one out... Totally lucky, since it wasnt a good signal... when I get bad signals I try to tell myself "I'm here to dig" and sometimes I end up with a surprise.
So this is my first actual Civil War button! I have dug hand fulls of flat buttons... US Box Plate, US Breast Plate, US Bit Boss (an hour before this button. ha), Civil War Bullets, Canister Shot... but never a button. When I saw this little cuff button come out I was more than excited.
I've been dying to dig a complete shoe buckle and I had a feeling this site had one... just not today. I checked all over for the rest of it...
Any clue what this is? Its in the center right of the stool pictures. Will take some closeup pictures and get it in its own thread.
