Decided to go on this rain soaking, typical, northeastern spring day. Our first trip of the year to the spot of the other Ryder 7 Vermontensium copper and the British Revolutionary War Belt Tip. (I'm gonna find the other one AND the cartridge box plate!!!). After arriving at the spot we noticed hardly any snow, which we were hoping for, only there was ALOT of storm damage from the ice storm we had early in the winter. Then it starting hosing on us , so we built a fire underneath a stand of pines and dried out for 2 1/2 hours. Lots of fun we were having . By this time I was about ready to go home as were my brother and Roz, but said I'd give it about 15 mins before we left. Walked over to the foundation and got a jumpy, deep signal at 8+ inches. Right away there are some flat rocks but I continued after removing them. Still getting a decent bottle cap signal, I took another shovel full and dumped it out. Noticed the caked up disc that I thought was a button, but kinda knew right away it could be coinage. Awesome! This was the KG III. Could see it was going to be toast. So I checked the hole again and was still getting a good signal underneath a huge rock. It was too good a signal bouncing between 25 and 50 cents to pass up on. After another rock and 2 more shovels of dirt, it was in the pile I had beside the hole. Grabbed 2 handfuls and passed it over the coil and BINGO! I had it in my hand. Could see it was a coin right away, and could see the side said "TENSIUM". Holy Moly another Vermont Copper! 2 coins in the same hole! So in 3 hrs. AND 1, COUNT IT, "1" HOLE I had 2 1700's coins!!! "The HOGGE IS RUNNING WILD" When I called to my brother and Roz, they thought I was full of.....Well "stuff". Until they came over and saw what I had in my FIRST and ONLY hole of the day. I hope it's an indication of the year I'm about to have. We decided to leave and go back up tomarrow when it wasn't so bad out. All I've done so far is hit them with water and a soft toothbrush. The CFT is shot but believe it or not the date is 1776 or 1775. You can't see it in the scan but I can under magnification. The Vermont I will repost after the peroxide bath. This thing, like the Ryder 7, has some awesome detail left in it. I think being underneath a 30-40#,(or more!) boulder helped in it's preservation. Again, I will repost the Vermont tonight! There is some real nice detail on the obverse. The sun, landscape and plough are AWESOME! You can easily see the doubling on the "U" in PUBLICA. The reverse is worn and a small piece of the planchet is missing from the "T" to the first "L" in STELLA. "QUARTA" is only 1/2 there and the upper half of "DE" in DECIMA is clipped. OVERALL....I got real lucky again to find a 223 year old coin in this kind of shape.UPDATE: Sold today 5/30/09 on EBAY for $760.00. Thought I get more as within 12 hrs. of listing, it had already met the reserve of $700.00.( thought I would try it) So I sat for 6 1/2 more days with no more bids til today. I actually was going to sell it private sale for $500.00. I guess EBAY worked out this time! EBAY #330332742270
