1780's homesite and civil war battlefield finds!

I have been hunting 2 spots in mw spare time the last 2 weeks...here are the better finds. They include 179? large cent (my oldest find so far):headbang:, an 1888 indian, 1889 seated dime, 1911 v-nickel, #267 cattle tag?, a silver medallion reading "given for Merit from yhe institution for the deaf and dumb and the blind...May 31st 1853..... Also pictured are some civil war items found including several bullets, an eagle coat button, a union eagle breast plate:hello2:, a camp knife with spoon and two other unidentified items, one is copper the other silver plated???? Any ideas? This is only about half of the iron items dug inluding axe heads, an early hoe head, several horse and mule bits, horse shoes, etc... One of these sites was a homeplace dating to around 1780 that was used as a Union camp during the war. The other is a farm field adjoing a local battle field....Also not pictured are 3 tokens, a 25 cents general store token and two mercantile tokens 5 cents and 1 dollar. Thanks for looking:icon_thumleft:!

Thanks for the pic surf. Still looks similar to that!

SWEET finds! Nice breastplate too! But I think the find of the week is the silver tag. I am assuming it is solid silver? That's a beautiful old find that you could certainly figure out the story about who it was presented to, where they lived, what they did for a living, etc.

So nice to find personal finds like that.

Cheers,

Buck

Fantastic bunch of finds Digger. :hello2: Hands down that silver merit badge is the BEST!!!! Outstanding recovery. :occasion14:
You need to send that in to a few of the treasure magazines. Seriously.
Congrats,
MM

That looks like a site that is going to force you to return many times. Is that a butt plate in the top pic, right side? Lots of relics there and big pile of lead. Great hunt for sure!

No old dude.....much larger than a buttplate, i am thinking a piece to chair or other furniture??? Not really sure...but i have two more just like it...lol!

nice finds, just the type of stuff I like to find

You had quite the hunt, with lots of GREAT finds - but that silver medalion is just over the top! Congrats!!! :icon_thumright:

The breast plate is nice but the award medal is AMAZING! Great finds. Kind of nice when a seated dime is an also ran : )

That badge is awesome! The breastplate's edge doesn't look too awful chipped. Nice stuff!

Great relics, I love the award medal and breastplate!

Steve
