Had a great day hunting the newly acquired 200 acre farm that Tombac received permission to hunt. The fields are loaded with lead of all sizes. Not pictured are two large cents, a half cent and 6 buttons, one a blow hole. The farmers wife was so excited I let her borrow them to show her son. Tombac pulled up a 1794 Liberty Cap Bust with a 1793 head , a LC, and one of the nicest dandy tombac buttons with the coolest design. Many other buttons, coins, and smalls for him. The first coin of the day for me was the 1776 half reale. That put me into overdrive for the day. The 1829 French Haiti, 1 (un) Centimes is a first of this coin for me. A 1796 Cap Bust. A 1787 M.48-g New Jersey copper identified by Don SJ. A 1861 Indian and smalls.

That's a great hunt! Love Spanish, New Jersey and the liberty cap. Havnt seen a nj in a while.

Amazing selection of finds. :)

I've never even heard of that French coin before. Fantsastic! Congrats on the 1/2 Reale, too.

Great bunch of finds Art! Don always amazes me how he can ID those scrappy NJ coppers. I love your picture of the tree shadow. I'm gonna try to get a shot like that some day.

Nice! Congrats! Want to bet her son is going to want a detector?

Good stuff right there. Awesome hunt.:icon_thumleft:

Awesome hunt Arty, Love the silver and Frenchy. Can you just imagine in your mind for one minute what it was like in Haiti in 1829, pirates running about, taverns down by the piers full of drunken buccaneers and ladies of wee discretion.......Arrrrrr, now that be some wicked times matey..........MORE RUM.:skullflag:

That field produced a very nice variety of finds, of course I liked seeing another NJ being found, and Liberty Cap cents are my favorite coin to find. Back in the 90s I found a Haiti copper, and mine being dated 1841, I always thought of the copper shortage and that it probably circulated as legal coinage due to the Hard Times.............. Attaching a photo of mine. The field I found mine in (yes, many years ago I did hunt fields) almost all the coppers came out of the ground in great shape, even a 1793 Half Cent was in rather good condition from that field........

Reminds me of the day 10 years ago I was out with a crowd of guys, one of them found a gold sovereign and showed it to the farmers wife, she said I'll have that took it and closed the door on him.

Beautiful scenery, and some excellent finds. The Haitian coin is a great one for the collection. Not too many of those being dug... Nice NJ and great to get a Liberty Cap.

Congrats,

Buck

Your Haiti copper is a beaut. I have only found one field so far that has been kind to coppers. I can see why you woods hunt, it is very disappointing finding the coppers destroyed by the fertilizers after so much work finding them.

Thanks Buck, Its so nice to get totally lost in the scenery and the hobby. I thought the Haiti was a button at first and upon cleaning discovered its French roots...
Thank you all for your kind comments... Art
