I had an unusual find today detecting. A 1768 German 1/12 Thaler. Silver smaller than a quarter and larger than a nickel. Crappy signal but heard a high tone very deep. Ended up digging it at close to 10 inches. Never saw one before. Thanks for looking and may your coil get over IMG_20200905_180000037.jpgIMG_20200905_175944787.jpggreat finds.

Nice looking coin. Never seen one before. Did it come from a colonial site?

1/12 Thaler, Hannover or Brunswick-Lueneberg-Calenberg-Hannover (it bounced around a lot). There's a more than slight chance it came from the pocket of one of George III's conscripts/slave soldiers - he owned that part of Germany at the time.

It could have come over with a Hessian, but I think more likely with a PA Dutch settler. Nice find!

Trying to get in as much time digging as I can, Tommy. Dug a lot of holes today but this find made it worthwhile.
