We Rick and I had another day out on the fields, this time we started with a new field that we had not hunted yet. I got my first target within the first minute and out from the ground popped a 172 something 2 reale, could not believe my eyes and it wasn't even 07:00 in the morning yet, WOW. View attachment reale.bmp View attachment reale II.bmp This is what what it came out like after a little clean up, 20130603_RealeII.jpg 20130603_reale.jpg . Last Friday a1677 4 sols french silver and now this, ZDD is a happy camper.
The rest of the hunt didn't matter much to me after that opener but hunt we did. Eventually we ended up on the field I got my sword pummel from and I may have found the guard to the handle but I will have to straighten out out first to be sure, it just looks like a crumpled piece of brass right now. I also got a second drawer pull, some bail seals, buttons and 4 coppers.

Was a good day, again.

Beautiful coin..well done:occasion14:

Z,
As I bump up the magnification, my eyes (playing tricks on me, perhaps) see a 4 then the last number has a loop in the bottom, as does a '6'. So I'd call it a possible 1746. Yes, I also see what could be a '2' in the third spot, but that '2' would be slightly out of place so I'll go with the '4'-- IMHO. It can't be a '48' since that monarch was no longer in his reign in that year.
Don.......

Congrats on the Beautiful 2 Reales! Way to go :icon_thumleft:

That's a gorgeous coin Dave! We find lots of cut pieces from 2 reale pistareens here in Virginia, but almost never a whole specimen.
Thanks Bill, I hope I can pick up a few more of these babies. I told you I wouldn't turn my nose up on a little spanish.
There are 2 cellar holes with fields that we haven't even touched yet, just waiting for the cows to mow the grass.

Thanks Don, I see what you meen about the 2 being a little low. I'll take a 1746 any day.

Get out there again, I think a Shilling is next in line.

Good luck for tomorrow! Here all fields are planted. I'm working something out with our archies. They are digging an roman villa site near my home and haven't enough workers..... and need someone for detecting.... Only chance to get out as long as the flood did not hit us here too! Wow, looks like some serious flooding. Would love to hear more about your project. Please try to get some pix and do up a post about it. I love reading about things like this. Our history only goes back a few hundred years so it is good to see others who are digging history that goes back thousands of years.
Stay safe there buddy,
Dave
