1700's small SWORD quillion block.. NEW PICS!

Hey, I picked this up at a park in NY last year and never knew what it was... You can see the face engraved on both sides.. I think its a dagger but Im not sure.. Any ideas would be appreciated and I was curious to the period too.. Thanks Jeff

UPDATE-- thanks to those of you who helped.. It was posted on swordforum.com and id'ed as a quillion block from a small sword in the 1700's :headbang:

UPDATE 2-- wanted to add some new pics after I scraped a little crud off this beauty.. I tried to give more of a 3-D idea of the face on both sides... If you notice, its not exactly the same figure on both sides.. It looks like his mouth is open on one side and closed on the other

I did some research and couldn't find yours in any of the books I have here. But,The quillen's are bent up so it makes it difficult for me. Most of my reference books are of the Revolutionary war period
Nice find!

Thank you! I no joke found it on an old baseball diamond inside a park that sits up near the adirondacks... I think it might date pre Rev war.. at least the few ideas I've heard were late 1600's-early to mid 1700's.. I would absolutely love to see a picture of one like mine in nice shape.. thanks again! Jeff .... oh btw, i remember digging it up and bein a little perturbed with the blob of what I thought was junk cuz she sure sounded pretty :laughing9: :laughing9:

That's really an excellent find. I was talking with a few folks over on the sword forum, and it appears to date well into the 1700s.

Top Notch!

Just goes to show that sometimes things are not as they seem. Many times I have gotten home thinking I was skunked and found out that I had the find of the season in my pouch. :)

Cheers,
