Got out today for the first time in many months. Went to a site I have hit hard before...it's an area that contains 4 house foundations from the early 1800s. Besides an IH, the only notable find from here was the 1840s/1850s NY Militia Belt Plate I found last year.

Decided to brave the cold/ remaining snow to see what I could find. Near where I got the belt plate, I recovered a severely bent shoe buckle frame. It was already broken, and in the process of bending it back into shape, I broke it some more. Oh well.

It has some decorations around the edges. I think it's 1700s based on other ones I've seen. I have previously dug one of the inner components to a shoe buckle, but never the frame.

I know it's not too exciting, but I'm pretty happy

Looks like a shoe buckle to me. Great Find. Good luck in 2014!

Very historic. Much more interesting than a gold coin.

Nice find, all the sweeter given the cold/snow/hard soil. I've also broken a few pieces trying to bend them back into shape. I try to restrain myself now.

Same here. Luckily this one was already broken...would have been pretty upset if it was intact and I broke it.
