Got out to an early site with my buddy and we shallow water hunted the muck and mud. The finds were sparse with just a flat button and part of a pocket knife when I got a large iron signal that turned out to be this surprise!
When I picked up the clump of iron, I noticed the side plate which I thought was brass, but turned out to be solid cast silver! The flint was still fused into the hammer. Still stoked about this cool find! Thanks for looking:icon_thumleft:

Thanks for posting all of these finds in the banner thread. These are incredible. I think each of these deserve a ride across the top independently, especially since they were all found on different hunts. But apparently there's a "rule" about a finder having more than one banner displayed at a time. I'll keep my thoughts about that to myself. (Don't want to be banned.)

I hope you find more. Thanks again for sharing with the community.

Wow Keith!, Stop finding these banner finds and left some for me, Just kidding or am I lol.. That is one awseome dig! Congrats!!

Really cool that it was attached to the wood. I agree that each is banner worthy and glad they are all in your amazing banner post. When you are done be sure to post in the best of section on the site. Was any more wood found?

Wonderful! I said it could be there along with the other parts, which are probably silver also. I was hoping the plate would be engraved with a name or initials of the owner but that will remain a mystery for now. I`m hoping the other parts are close by to the ones you have found. This is like reading a great mystery novel but the character is real, only unknown.
I don`t know your location as to swamp lake or what but don`t forget wave action and currents, maybe affected by hurricanes and surges that might have scattered parts farther. Again kudos to you!:hello2:

Amazing BANNER find and subsequent finds! :notworthy:

I was able to save some wood from stock but not much. The wood that escutcheon was on will be preserved also. No other wood found yet.

Yes you sure did say that and I appreciate your posts and input Rege!

Reading and seeing the pictures of your unique finds has challenged many of us to provide what little knowledge we can about these. I thank you for being so persistent and sharing of what you have located. Being hundreds of miles away following your threads on Treasure Net allows me to participate in your discoveries and confirms much of the bloody Revolutionary history of South Carolina that I enjoy studying. It is one thing to read about it in a book but when you are holding an actual "Buck & Ball" lode in your hand that was taken from such a firearm, the reality sets in and for a brief moment you are there with all the dangers and desperation that the owner felt. WOW!

Now that is freakin cool Great find. Awesome addition to your collection......

Update to thread: I posted this 1774 silver butt plate to the flintlock on a separate thread already. I am adding the gun’s silver parts that I have recovered to the thread as an archive.
