Located old tavern on my maps that was built in 1700. Literally, 1700! Got permission and went to work. Found a nice KG II 17??, United States Virginia halfpenny 1773, and a 1776 half Reale. Enjoy!

A little history about this 1773 Virginia half penny. The British Crown sanctioned the minting of these copper coins (appox. 700,000 at the Tower Mint in London) that then came across the Atlantic onboard the "Virginia" in early 1774 but did not actually hit circulation until 1775. After the Revolutionary War these coins along with newly minted U.S. coins were still used as currency for a bit.

Incredible finds :o! Congrats!:occasion14:

Awesome finds!! That's the kind of discovery that gets new hobbyists hooked for good!!
What kind of map were you using? Online or an actual map? I know my area had a lot of colonial history. I am always interested in finding new map sources.

Brother- you’ve found some good stuff- but that Virginia is SHOCKINGLY nice! I’ve never seen the features on Ol’ George’s face before!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Two excellent colonial era finds. It's pretty neat to think that the coin almost certainly circulated in America during the revolution! Also one has to imagine that your tavern site will almost certainly have some coins and relics from the 1600's.... somewhere!!!!
!

KILLER FINDS!!! Pound that site:icon_thumleft:

Very sweet digs looks like you might be the first one there:thumbsup:
Thanks for saving that history...
