I searched about $30 in CWRs, not expecting much besides a lil copper and a few wheats.

About $25 in I saw the backside of an Indian. I expected to flip it over and find a run of the mill common 1907 or something similar.

Ended up being an 1867! - my oldest CRH find to date! (Actually its my first 19th century U.S. find.) t's not in too bad of shape - full, sharp date. Redbook says its worth $50 in G4.

Last week I pulled 5 steel cents from about $25 in CWRs - (4) 43S's and (1) 43D. Haven't found one in a while. The last one I found came from a box - thought the sorters' magnet sorted those out?

Anyway, happy with these finds.

Happy hunting all! Hope you all get some nice finds this week!

Minted only 2 years after the close of the civil war. Congrats, that is an awesome find!

Not quite 167 years old, but definitely a good find

Dulce!

When I was a beginning coin collector (early 1960s) I would go through rolls of pennies. Far more old coins were around at that time. My sister filled one of those blue Whitman coin folders with coins she took out of circulation.

My best roll had a Flying Eagle penny - from memory is was an 1858. Not in very good condition - still, the oldest coin I found that way.

Here is the reason I'm writing this story. There were a number of other nice coins in that roll - Indian heads, early wheaties, etc. Nothing to pay for college - still, finds I didn't complain about at a cent apiece. I believed then, and continue to think, a collector turned into the bank the wrong roll.

That's the lesson! Keep your finds far away from the coin rolls you're turning around.

Good luck to all,
