Got my oldest coin for the season today - unintended too.

The Mrs. and I went out for a hunt at an old junky site I found some 20+ years ago. Figured it'd be a perfect spot to set the detectors in coin mode and eke out the goodies. We did plus some indians and other stuff. My wife wanted to walk along the woods to another spot I did well at years ago just so I could show the site to her and what do you know I dug a 1665 cob. My oldest coin for the season and oldest for this spot. Otherwise the site only produced a few musket balls and buttons. We're tired so here are just the best 2 finds. My wife got the killer 3 cent. She came over with it at one point and said "I found this silver coin and cant think of the name of it". So I knew it must be a good one.

WOW... very very nice coins. Congrats on making me jealous! GL&HH.

That is AWESOME! That's a gorgeous cob. I found a 64 with my tree coin and it's my one and only hammered coin. Great job! These finds don't happen often

Yes my eyes nearly popped out when I saw it was a 65 cob. Really unexpected. Only other 17th century coin found at this site was like 1680s.

Gary - that's a nice, early pillar and waves cob from the Potosi mint. It might be the earliest dated one I've seen other than Abe's 1664. I believe the first ones with that design were minted in 1652, and I've never dug one from earlier than 1670. My congrats to the Mrs. too for a good lookin' little silver.

Now those are a couple amazing silvers, especially the cob.

I got a 1658 Potosi cob some years ago from a site just a few fields over. This whole area was 2 big Lord Baltimore land grants from 1662 & 1663. Somehow I managed to dig 6 cobs in the last 14 months. Been a damn good year methinks - despite the horrible weather.

Wow Gary..
That is real nice early one..
Thats on top of my wish list..
Congrats.

One of the best hunts I've seen posted in a while, killer finds

Holy moly. I'm impressed. Nice to be able to ID a cob and what an early one. The trime is a beaut as well. Congrats in a stellar site and finds

I do it every time. You'd think I never found anything before. lol

WOW !! AWESOME FINDS ! :occasion14:

I caught this fox checking us out from the edge of the woods. Got it in video but she's too small to see. I say she because there were a couple tiny pups running around her.
