Hands down my best find metal detecting . Went to a site with my friend Jerry Cooper. Early in the hunt I had a low tone on my equinox 600. A very early find I'm hearing, still shocked. Early American at its finest. I'll take this over a large cent any day! Thanks Coop! 20190408_113925.jpg

Freakin cool piece of history

That's not a military button or a silver dime. It's not even a buffalo. That's why I will vote Banner. Congratulations :hello2:

They had a great respect for the turtle and its a great effigy. Very nice find sir!

Banner in my book too. These are simply not found.

Beautiful but before I pass out over it. Have you had someone who knows their stuff verify that’s what it is?

A few avid artifact collectors have seen it and were quite Impressed. The site as where I found it is a Dutch and native American trading site. Many impressive artifacts have come from the area.

THAT is cool...

Tom: I neglected to reply to your thread earlier on this excellent find of a Native American lead effigy. I made a similar recovery a few years ago. Please see the attached link for further information on lead effigies, including other images of turtles like the specimen you recovered. Congrats on a great recovery. :icon_thumleft:

Very interesting . Looks to be a TORTOISE rather than a TURTLE . Did the Indians live in the ocean ? TP
