I work at a credit union, and one of the perks is that I can keep an eye out for silver coins. Haven't found much till today...just the odd quarter or dime here and there.
But, I was lucky enough to get a pile of them the other day! My co-worker took these in and she didn't want them. So I gladly took them in. Worth around $75 in CAD for the silver right now. Might even ger a bit more if I sell to collectors because a lot of them still have lots of shine to them! It made my day! :)

I doubt that very seriously. More likely they can just swap it out for money in their pocket/purse at face value. As long as the total matches, the bank doesn’t care if it’s a paper dollar or four silver quarters. A dollar is a dollar to the bean counters.
I probably worded my question oddly, but basically what I meant. as long as the overall totals coming in for the day matches everything is good. just dont know how the bank views a numismatist picking out the cherries in the bunch. perk of the job I guess.

ive worked in positions where ive come across something very interesting to me but was told its to be a hands off item with someone above me peeking over my shoulder... but im sure the manager ended up with it in the end.

My wife was in banking for years, tellers always get first choice of what comes in. I’ve roll hunted for decades and some of the teller’s collections are impressive. That said, some banks have policies against employees swapping out coins for personal reasons.

Exactly. As long as the till matches they don't care. The credit union doesn't sell old money/silver...they take currency at face value and will give out at face value. If I want them, then I withdraw the funds from my acct and they are mine for keeps.

True. I don't think the credit union minds if you collect, but thanks for that thought. If I decide to sell for profit the coins I get, probably not wise to tell anyone because it could be considered a conflict of interest. Thanks.

Sounds like it depends on your manager. Wouldn't be surprised if your manager has a nice collection at home...lol

in the mid 70's you could still go to Canadian banks and buy silver dollars at face value.

The old saying is beauty is in the eye of the beholder Well now you be holding some nice silver coins and you got them at face value Perhaps you should buy your co worker a coffee A way to brighten your day !!
