It's been an interesting couple of weeks for me. I got done at my job and have been scrambling to buy a lot of new tools and get to work for myself as soon as possible. A little stressful when you're spending thousands of $ and the future is uncertain. Luckily I got hooked up with a great job doing some really ornate interior trim. So things are starting off great. But after all of the stress I really wanted to get out for a few hours. Last Sunday I hiked out to an old bridge site. This morning I hiked down river to try to locate a mill site that was built by the same guy that built the bridge. It took me a long time but eventually I saw an old well. Then I looked at the river and realized it would have been an ideal place for a mill. I hunted around the well and wound up with 10 early buttons and a copper from an area about 8'by8'. I knew. That this guys house was somewhere downstream from the mill and wanted to go see if i could locate it. I wound up hitting an iron patch about 1 mile from the mill and found 3 pewter buttons and a nice early pewter spoon. Rat tail I believe is the correct id. When I have more time I believe these 2 sites are going to be awesome. The finds are early and the iron patches are quite large. The copper I believe will prove to be a DB, maybe a Lib Cap lol....yeah right. Two of these buttons are really nice. I've been lucky to find some nice ones recently.
I will post pic of the coin when it's all cleaned up. Thanks for looking guys and best of luck out there. image.jpg

I see her, she is so pretty

Nice finds buddy, sweet looking buttons!

Wow you've got yourself a great site Abe. Those early and plentiful finds are a good sign of more to come. That's definitely a rat tail spoon. According to Hume, they were made from about 1710 to maybe 1740 or 50. As time went on the rat tail became shorter, and it looks like yours has a short tail which should help to date your spoon more precisely. No telling what you might find next. Good luck !!

Great hunt! Can't wait to see what else comes out of there. Looks like a flowing hair to me. HH!

Keep it up and we can trade our Albert's book for an Abe's book. Very nice ones and it does look like a DB here too.

Nice early finds can't wait to start hunting foundations again

Nice bunch of finds.

Those buttons rock Abe. Big time. Looks like the LC has some meat under the crusty stuff. Anxious to see her after a bit more soaking. Congrats

Thanks Guys. Bill thank you for the info on the rat tail spoon. I knew this homestead site was earlier than the mill but I didn't realize it was that early. That's good to know. This should be a fun area to hunt as it's far away from any humans. No trash or nobody around. My favorite kind of site

Nice finds.

So the coin looks to be a 1797. That matches my oldest. I'll find that chain or Lib Cap some day. Maybe at this site

I love these Tombacs Blaze! The designed ones are awesome

Now that's a good hunt. Love the details in the buttons. That big dandy is real nice and good eyes with the antler. I haven't found any yet this year but last winter I found one the coyotes got. A nice 8 pointer.

Looks like you have found a killer site and have only started to scratch the surface! I love those ornate colonial buttons, especially that tombac!

Nice research Abe...Nothing like research then going out and finding the site and then finding the relics..Keep up the good work...And good luck with the business. .
If you put the same kind of zeal into it as detecting you will be so busy! !!! Lol
George

Yes, good luck with the new business, the harder you work now the faster you'll be able to hire someone to do the work for you which in turn will free up most of your day to detect.
