Detector(s) used
Whites new coinmaster-Teso Silver Max-Minelab GT
You can read the field test at http://losttreasure.com/fieldtests/ArchiveView07.cfm?ID=lt20000240

At a Disc. setting of 0, fully counter clockwise, the 1236 will disc out most iron, larger pieces will still be picked up just like all other detectors.

90% of the gold rings will be disc out at pull tab setting. So if you test the detector on a pull tab and it is discriminated out, you won't get a response to most of the gold rings. Natch them big Honkers will still sound off.

Thanks Sandman. It will disc out my gold ring at discrim-level of 9. I wanted to ask to see if my detector was working correctly so I could reverse disc-
Thanks Again.

Hi Robb

The 1236x2 at 0 disc is equivalent to the Whites IDX Pro with Black Sand switch activated which will isolate very small bits of iron. Not sure on the degree of discrimination but at 0 Disc the 1236 will not disc out most iron but in fact will react to small paper staple and will hit on very small iron bits. When i switch to iron disc on the 1236 x2 it's about the same as 4 to 5 on the discrimination knob.

As far gold discrimination using the nickel as the plus or minus standard depending on size and composition my 1236x2 disc's the nickel at about 6 on the dial. HH Bill

Thanks...Thats about right on mine too.

That report does show how the 1236x2 responds in the red zone iron discrimination but it goes lower and will provide a more finite iron discrimination using the disc knob down to 1. At this point your talking about little to Zero modern trash infestation for any type of productive hunting. HH Bill

Okay call me a little dense, but I missed your last point. Are you saying that hunting down to "1" on the DISC is only advisable for sites that have little modern trash?

In the red zone iron disc setting at +4 range your disc will eliminate many small iron targets such as most nails but at 1 disc your hitting tiny ferrous objects.
Between the 4 and 6 range of disc your eliminating small foil through nickels. Depends on how low your willing to accept digging a target. HH Bill

Okay, I got it. The IRON preset equals a DISC setting of about 4, eliminating most small ferrous items up to about nails. If I want to pick up these small iron items, leave the preset and work the DISC in the range between 0-4. After 4, the DISC works the same as they all do. Gotcha. Thanks a whole heap!
