12 volt power source

I would think the amps would be too high. :-\

Make sure whatever transformer you use it is output DC less than 14 volt. Anywhere between 6 and 12 is good. The other thing is the MA rating. Mine is low at 130 MA you can go as high as 750 ma or even 1.0amp but you really have to watch it with the higher amperage. the lower the slower and we all know that cleaning slow is good.

Hit some garage sales this weekend. The gadget usually dies before the transformer does. You can't hardly give away old cellphone chargers, power supplies, etc.
Being an electronics nerd, I've got a box of wall-warts, phone chargers, laptop supplies. I can't throw anything away ;D
I'd send you one, but the shipping costs would be way more than its worth, and I'm not that far away. Shoot, the 8 mile drive to the post office would cost more than it is worth these days.

Maybe you can reduce the current from the one you got. Just add a resistor to one of the leads. About a 100 ohm should work. That would limit the current to 120mA. It would need to be a 1 Watt resistor so it won't get too warm. I've not done electrolysis so maybe some one could chime about whether it would work.

I hooked up a 1.2 ma supply I had laying around trying to clean an item. I went inside and one hour later came back and the item was gone! So I would really say low ma is the way to go. A lot slower but at least you run a lower risk of cooking your find to powder.

I'm going to go out and take a look at the power supply. I've got some old pieces of rusty steel I might try it on
thanks for the info. i'll let you know how it works

I took another look at the power source. I think I need to do some major reducing, it's rated at 1.75 amps
