Can't believe it, my ears are finally dry as it has been 10 years sometime this week since a casual work conversation sent me on a path I would have never expected. Even as much as I like some of the finds they are probably secondary to some of the other things which have happened as a result of this hobby. For one, the Detecting God has conquered the Rum devil, his little voice no longer talks to me.

As for the finds I don't really know where to start. I am lucky to live in an area of North America that had a lot of early history, and even though I have only been at it ten years it was quite amazing how many of the early sites were left untouched. That being said, I can guarantee my digging buds and I have earned every last piece of metal with the time spent on research, driving, walking, and just general brain storming many hours. Those better pieces of metal you ask.... 17 Spanish silver (including a 1777 8 reale, 9 cobs & 1723 2 reale pistareen), some early French silver, rare local coin, few CTs, 1 VT, 1722 Rosa America Twopence, rare 1773 counterfeit Hibernia halfpenny, 1795 US LG cent, Cannonballs including a French 12 pounder, few trade axes, many Rev War buttons including some that were quite rare, other early early mil. buttons including 1812, Rev War Royal Provincials cartridge box plate, 1812 shoulder belt plate, Victorian gold snake ring, early French shoe/knee buckles, Early French bale seals, 1700s Masonic ring traced to the owner, musket parts, musket sling buckle, sword pommel, and the list goes on. (Things like plain buttons and everyday type relics are not included in the picture, there was many)

I get the credit for pulling the find out of the dirt, but it couldn't be done without all the people I hunted with over the years. I have had some pretty crazy ideas that sent us countless miles for nothing, but as many times as that has happened there was another time we came home after a great day of digging. Ok, time to grab my coffee and think about the next 10! :)

This Winter BB! I've put it off way too long. A lot of the other stuff I'm not really happy how I have it displayed/stored etc., so a Winter project it will be.

Never found one, however the snake buckle is a favorite of mine :hello2: What's the buckle buttom of same pic?

Snakes don't turn up often, my two buds and myself just have one each.

The bottom is the center piece of an early 1900s German buckle. About a baseball throw away I found a 1706 cob, can't get much different than those two. You can also throw in a 3rd American - NY Volunteers button. It was an interesting site.
That's one more than me IP :dontknow:

Really, never a snake buckle. I think it's just as interesting some of the things you guys haven't found, as it is some of the great stuff you have. Another one was Shaun saying he had never dug a Cartwheel. That was a surprise.

Nope, never had one! Crusader dug one when he came to my local fields though, right in front of me ::)

At least it will be a buzz when i do get one :icon_thumleft:

I don't think Romeo had found one and he comes here and digs a freakin twopence. Many times more rare to find than the penny. (first I've seen found here)

Actually I wasn't bitter at that one, just felt a bit stupid. He showed it to me, saying he had just found a cartwheel, and I looked and even though it struck me funny, it didn't hit me like a ton of bricks it was a two. (which it should have as I've had each in my hands many times) There's nothing that Romeo has dug that makes me bitter... it's the way he does it that frustrates the hell outta me! :D Go in a field, not really any targets left, tries the edge and digs Spanish silver. :dontknow: Of course for any decent find I want to be the finder, but the main objective is success and whenever I can make that happen, even indirectly (finding the site, not the find), I'll call it a good hunt.

(Of course as soon as I post the above message I look down to the bottom left of the screen and see him and the belt plate he dug the day before the Spanish! :help: )

No doubt about that one. About 4 months no digging.

Looks like you are doing fair huh? Just kidding, great finds and nice displays. I took up metal detecting as it appeared to be a good hobby for a retiree. I now wish I had started years earlier as I don't have near enough time left to do all the diggin' I want to. So much to dig and so little time. I've heard it before. Keep at it. Monty

I like the chair leg in the top right corner the best. I'd like to see a close-up of it. :laughing9:

Killer collection, IP. Some day, when you are old and gray, you'll be able to say, to the local detectorist walking down the street, "Boy, after serving 50 years, I have determined that nothing Colonial remains on this island." :laughing9:

Here's to your next 10! :occasion14:

Kyle

I've been a member of TNet going on 4-years now and have been in
awe of many. . . or should I say almost all. . . of your fine recoveries.

I find it amazing, as I'm sure you do also, how one recovery will
most certainly kindle an interest to research another site and find
something even more exquisite than the last. . . :icon_sunny:.

I wish you many more decades of successful hunting. . .

Monty, I wish I had kept my very first detector and made a run at it, but unfortunately at 14 years old I was against the odds. Had I got the bug and was able to get it going in my early 20s that pile would be 4 times as big, because I would have been the only one hitting so many good spots. However, all that being said, I am very happy with how it worked out and what I have been able to find. There is still way more to find than I'll ever have time for.

Oh the things I do for you! :D Here's the whole thing, the "Romeo futon!" I had it stored but he was making so many trips over I had to bring it out again. I don't think it's too comfortable, something I hope slows him down a little. :laughing7:

You just got me charged up again about a field we're waiting for the crop to come off. I found an old silver coin in the field next to it, and dates exactly to the settlement I was looking for. In the next few weeks we'll find out what's there! (was gone by 1760)

I hope 10 years from now we're all still on here posting!

I just gave away a futon like that. Did you ever try to sleep on it? Most uncomfortable piece of crap I ever put my old tired bones on! I bought it for my house guests but didn't have the guts to make anyone sleep on it. Torture is illegal I am told? Monty

Awesome collection, IP

I did say it was for Romeo. ;D I have something to make it a bit better but just forget to grab it. That being said, after the days we put in I think he could probably sleep on the floor. It can't be too bad because the leather couch is right there to switch to if he wants.
