Hello Everyone,

I didn't have to travel very far to get my silver fix on Wed. I met Jon(Goldenapples) and Mike(oknorom) in the Barrio again, and had one of my better days there. On Monday, I couldn't find a silver coin out of some 30+ wheaties, plus the '08S IH at this park. On Wednesday, the silver was starting to show again. My first dig of the morning was a merc, and ended the day with 7 mercs, 1 rosie, 1 war nickel, along with over 40 wheats, including two more semi-keys, a '10s and '12s. The other rosie was found in a short 2 hr hunt on Tues at a local park. At around 10", I pulled an old lock with the date "1903" on one side, and "IXL" on the other. Found out it was made by Slaymaker Lock Company, a special edition lock of that year. I found a pic of it in good condition on the net.

I'm glad Jon had his video camera with him on Wed. He filmed three silver coin digs for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!!!

It was a great day hunting with my buds, Mike and Jon. We saw so many cops in the park that day. They were busting kids playing hookey, and even handcuffed one. In the morning, one of the maintenance workers saw us making a plug, and said that the police were looking for us the day earlier because there was a complaint from a patron of the park who saw someone digging holes in the park. Mike explained/showed him our process of recovery, and he felt at ease that we were respectful of the turf. The gophers, however, were not.. Later in the day, one police SUV drove right on to the turf next to us, and I thought we were going to have to go home, but he said he had no problem with our detecting as long as we were filling in our holes. I sure felt better after that....I think they were watching us all day.

Thanks for looking,
CAPTN SE
Dan

PS - Sorry, Mike, I didn't admit it then, but it was me who produced that foul smell while you were recovering your find when you yelled, "Who Farted!!". ;D ;D ;)

Great digs Dan. Looks like you're picking up right where 07 ended. The video is pretty cool and I'm glad you all found silver. It's still cold here but I did squeeze in a couple of hours for the first time in 08.

Excellent video by you and Goldenapples Dan..........I really enjoyed this one. I like your energetic digging style and enthusiasm for finding the silver. This one really takes you along for the dig. Keep 'em coming Dan. Congrats on the finds.

Dan, congratulations on the deep wilver recoveries. As I have stated many times before, I have never seen anyone excavate so many wilvers in the current metal detecting times.

Since KirkPA is currently shopping for a new vehicle, I was able to watch the video before him. I can bet the metal detecting farm that one of those onlookers went home, and said to a buddy, "Dude, I witnessed it!" The buddy then replies, "Witnessed what?" The onlooker happily states, "A wilver recovery performed by one of the greatest in the current metal detecting times, Captn_SE!"

Great job, my friend, and keep the fever high!

Bone Dry Detecting...Kyle

Thanks, Henry and Crevias.

Bryce, glad you got a chance to swing a little in '08 so far. Weather is great here...should be in the 70's this weekend. ;D

Thanks, Ricardo. Glad you liked the video!! I knew you would appreciate a vid like this one. You and I are out there looking for the same old coins with our Explorers.

Kyle, thanks buddy. I'm not sure the crowd had any idea what we were finding until I pulled that silver coin out of the ground. They were playing soccer on the dirt, and saw the three of us swinging our detectors. I could have filmed all 9 silver finds that day, but didn't want to distract Jon too much while he was looking for that elusive silver also.

The depth is incredible...I dont care what anyone says...if your dfx is getting that deep make a video...I will have to see it to believe it...it is very obvious the se is much deeper... Dan I have gone out 6 straight days and used the replacement stock coil Whites sent me...it does seem more sensitive and even a little deeper then the old one maybe up to 6.5 to 7.0.... I have foundf a ton of clad $30...but nothing worth mentioning except a gun barrel ..... those plugs you are digging look like they are 8 to 10 inches deep! :o

Thanks, Gregg!! Some of those coins were very deep. Just a slight high squeak in the headphones. I knew they were good, though. That's why I called Jon over to film them. I was using a stock Exp. II coil on my SE yesterday. Jon had the slimline SE coil. On that second dig in the video, he couldn't hear the signal because of the coil's falsing/noise. In some areas of mineralization/trash, the SE coil just doesn't cut it. I've been using the Exp. II coil now for the past 6 months. I'm not taking it off.

Hope you can find a way to dig deeper. I heard you bid on an Exp. on another thread.

Yes I bid on an explorer...but did not get it...I am still a little confused with coils...read on another forum some people selling them are switching coils...and selling with the coil that does not work as well...So it seems with the se the 8 inch coil is needed..is that correct? ???

No, I would not use the SE with the 8" coil as your stock coil. The stock 10.5" (1050) coil is your best bet. I saw an Explorer on Ebay being sold with an 8" coil. The dealer had previously sold the stock 10.5" coil that originally came with that machine, and replaced it with an 8" coil. I have a sunray 8" coil, and have found lots of silver with it last year, but have been using it very little since I got the Exp. II stock coil.

Thanks Dan...I did talk to that seller...odd i saw him selling a new 10.5 coil on another forum...so I questioned him...he said exactly what you said...dealer sold him detector like that ...I decided to pass on that one..

I love watching your vid's Dan....Make's me want to take out the camera tommorrow.Congrat's on the silver and wheat's,the 38 look's to be in beautiful shape.Congrat's and HH!!

I liked your video. My diggin style is about like yours, except I try and dig straight down and not angle the digger. I find that I mark fewer coins that way. Looks like you have a nice start on silver for 08.
