Spent some time yesterday afternoon combing through the iron signals in my yard. I was only looking for specific signals that gave me the impression there may be more than iron. I'm starting to get the hang of the Manticore. Earlier this week I found a button with iron, today a shot gun shell. I start with an iron signal. Swing slowly all the way around and listen carefully. At some point going around I may get a brief higher pitch signal or not. If I do get the higher pitch, I stay at that position and swing quickly but only about two inches side to side. With the button earlier this week and now the shotgun shell, it pay'd off. The 2d helps too. It will show the ferrous and non-ferrous if you catch it just right.

It's a REM-UMC 12-gauge Nitro Club. I believe 1914-1945 or there about.

Unfortunately, rain for the weekend so I won't get back out till Monday to check more iron signals.

Thanks for looking...

A lot of times old Shot Gun Shell head stamps give you target ID's in the Nickel range.
It's common to find a lot of them around old Cellar Holes in the woods.

It's the third I've found, the other two were older. It makes sense since the tract of land our neighborhood is on was field till the 1950's. I imagine a lot of hunting went on here over the years before our homes.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Nice one. Cool that you're able to pick it out of the iron like that too.

Just found a umc also. There is a chart online that can give you the time period of that headstamp. I can’t remember the query that I used, it may have been “united metallic cartridge headstamps”. Great find!
