Cru'dad is away this weekend, so Land-Magnet & I looked at his latest field. Its got a cropmark which we believed would turn out to be Celtic or maybe Roman (small homestead/farm). However, no pottery was found on the first scouting mission whilst field walking only. The farmer has just put Beans in the other day, but he said it would be OK & that his Son has a detector he has never used, so we agreed to show him the ropes (after his return Monday). We only had 1 hour spare to track down the site in the middle of a huge field. Sadly I went a bit off target & it wasn't until we left that we started finding Iron Age (Celtic) & a bit of Roman pottery, so another possible transition site.

Only find of any note was a Tudor Clothes Fastener but at least the hook was intact :icon_thumright:

So we were encouraged by the pottery although not a lot, & will return maybe later this week. Pretty sure this is mostly Celtic so not expecting many finds & not very many Roman coins (my prediction). Very remote.

Good luck when you get back! HH, Mike

I've done further research & noticed an old ancient trackway which later had ridge & furrow on each side. Hopefully if we can't track down much Iron Age/Roman activity then we may get an odd bit of Medieval :-\ (but the poor & farmers took very few valuables whilst looking after the fields)
