So yesterday I found an eighth cut 1830 Large Cent and back in early January on the same field found and undated quarter cut Large Cent. How often have any of you seen US copper coins cut like this? Can't imagine value wise this served much purpose. 20210227_080556-removebg-preview.png 20210227_080505-removebg-preview.png

Can't imagine why they did it but found this one last fall 1844. Holed and cut. 20201121_141905.jpg

I've found two cut 1/4 pieces of a largie in the same field years back. Interesting thing is they are not from the same coin so maybe a lil more common than we think. KOOL find in my eyes bud.

Ive found cut cobs, pistareen, tree coin and a few colonial coppers but never anything US. Probably someone just messing around

not common - guy was thrifty

i mentioned in another post that i had come across a site yrs ago that had some old colonial journals/registers where guy kept track of goods - especially
deals with Ma. indians for goods and services - one was like
4 apples for a penny - so if you quartered a copper you could i guess get 1 apple

Good point. Area was inhabited by Inidans so very well could have been used for small scale buying of goods.

I've dug something like 15 largies in the couple years I've been detecting but no cut ones yet...
