Finally the ice melted and John and I were able to hunt today. It was a little cool and windy. The high was around 36 degrees, but the wind chill was much colder. We still had a great time and we made a few finds today. I dug a old ladies ring and part of a knife, 4 3 ring drops and a button. Not a great day but a fun one anyway. The ice storm we went Though was really hard on the trees, not to mention all the folks that lost power, including myself. My power was off for 6 days. Luckily I had a generator and I have propane powered fireplaces upstairs and down. We did OK but after awhile it got old not having any hot water. I was able to power my fridge and television along with some lights. I also hooked up my well pump so we at least had running water. The devastation encompassed a huge area, several states. I imagine the Amish folks were amused by some of the people that were so helpless without any power. We had plenty of warning but some folks didn't make heed the warning. We still have several thousand people without power in the surrounding area. Good hunting to you all this weekend. Tsgman

Nice finds!

Very good to hear you're OK after that weather. It's a dern good thing that an MD functions on batteries!!!

Nice hunt and pictures TSG! Congrats on the nice finds, is the ring copper? Sounds like a survival struggle there, tough experience! Good you were prepared. HH, Mike

"not a great day" i would love to find one 3 ringer in a week!

Good Job!

Hang in there TGS, keep the generators cranking.

I'm glad you were able to relief some of the stress by getting out to hunt. Great finds.

Hope you thaw out soon.

Some great finds there. No power for 6 days in that cold, had to be rough. I think the Amish cut off the power just as a joke. That's their sick humor to get back at you for honking at their horse and buggies as you drive by. ;D
Congrats on the nice things you found.

Nice digs,

crappy weather - it happened here last march and wasn't fun at all

tsgman, nice finds..

BRRRRRRRRRR even your finds in the first pic look frozen, skinny southern man here don`t like no white or clear cold stuff BRRRRR
sends a chill down my spine just looking at ya pics.

You were rescourceful with your alternate power source, WTG. And thank goodness you heeded the warnings. People who don't are fools, IMO. Very nice stuff to find in on a cold day. I'd be happy to find stuff like that any day!! LOL HOw about a closeup of the bottle opener? I collect 'em.

It's not copper. I think it could be gold plated? If it was brass wouldn't it have a greenish patina? I can still see some yellow places on it. I found a wedding band in this site a few months back. I belive the band was brass.

I am not sure of the item you are referring to? If you are talking about the item on the top right in the 1st photo thats a toe plate. It was attached to the sole of the Union soldiers brogan or boot. It kept holes from wearing through the sole. If you are talking about the item at the very top of the first photo that is a old pocket knife. My hunting buddy John found both of those items. Tsgman

Nice three ringers tsgman. Are those from that site you found the belt buckle awhile back? I have several, but all fired. Yours look great. WTG

Some neat finds. It's great getting out even for a few hours. Just have to dress accordingly.

Glad to see you were prepared for the ice. I have a generator for such occasions. I have only had to use it once for a day in the last 6 years. It would be rough without one in the winter.

It's not to far from that spot, I would guess around 1/2 mile or so. We were curious to see how many new targets might pop up after the ground had thawed out a little. Some areas I definately think had new relics pushed up. We had a few spots that were just to muddy to try and detect. I think we can find some more stuff after the conditions improve. Hope to see you at the 417 Relic Hunters Club meeting this Tues night. Untill then stay warm. Tim
