Ha! That one still has "resin" in it. Looks like it any way. I wander if anyone could determine what the natives of our area smoked, going by that?? Nice find bro!!

Nice finds! Those colonial pipe fragments have my metal detecting arm twitching.

Those pipes are a great indicator of occupation. I would be looking around that area to see if one part of the field has numerous bricks, ceramic shards, black bottle glass things like that that indicate a dwelling or at least a burn pile. It's in areas like that you can find everything from colonial silver coins even some older Spanish, Civil War era bullets like Minie balls, musket balls, brass and pewter buttons..ect...ect..

There is tons and tons of black glass, which I've never seen anywhere else, and tons of ceramic ware

even without a metal detector...if you dont have one, keep your eyes open for things like that also musket flint.

I always did like black dirt.

Black sand! I'm going panning this weekend. MD, well at least the old one I have is no good in the creeks that run through our farm. A friend of mine has had nice, really nice luck on our farm. I have only found trace amounts in black sand. It's fun.

That a little big, I do believe. Old English gun flint, that is what you are talking about, right?

English Flint was black..sometimes dark blue..Spanish Flint was a honey or butterscotch color.

I have heard honey was French. I think we talked about this, that they probably traded, but had no trust between them.

These are the only colors I have ever seen around here. All were found in VA.

Well, and one or two that look like jasper. I suppose these flints were from the French and Indian war. That is what a park ranger told my pops and I years ago. Back when even state parks said " come on in, hell I hope you find a bag full of artifacts. " now they say " if an artifact is found, don't touch it." what a difference since 1995.
