You know, it took me all day to come up with that title :D

Okay, headed out this morning, kinda tired, not much sleep, but I like to try and get in a couple of hours each day if I can. So, bike up to the regular spot. Get there, break out the detector and start at it. About forty minutes have gone by and I'm getting scrap. So, I start thinking to myself "Oh, great go and post yesterday about my 'typical day', and I'm not even gonna walk outta here with a penny"....Well another five minutes or so and I get a signal - sounds pretty good - start digging, and pop! there it is a beautiful gold ring. I'm thinking sweet! Okay, check it - markings - excellent - they read -something to small and lB? huh? - alright do the double sweep on the spot, just to be sure. Another signal. Cool, I'm thinking "Alright it's probably a coin". Squat down, dig a little, and - BAM! three more?! Whoah! YEAH! So I check those ones and I see the marks - M&B 18k - M&B 18k S(?)p & B Dec 31, 1892 - and the third one is European. Well I'm shaking like the leaves in the trees around me, so I sit down to have a smoke (I know, I know, no sermons please), and relax a little.
Spent about another twenty or so minutes (enough time do dig a loony, and old pocketknife), but just couldn't get back into it. To pumped, had to go and show the girlfriend, someone, anyone! :tongue3:
Got home got them cleaned up a little better. Well, the first one wasn't marked lB it was 18 and the name was Hemsley a jeweler here in Montreal since 1870. The other two marked M&B I'm not sure about - but the engraving does the job of dating them for me. The fourth one had five stones at one point and now has two - but they're rather dark, so I can't say what they are. The markings on it are H&S, a symbol to worn to decipher, 15, and 820 (any idea what it means, let me know).
This was definitely an awesome day!
Thanks for looking everyone and keep swinging :headbang:

Thanks for the banner vote :icon_thumleft:
As far as particulars.... Woods, probably about 30' from the street and only about three to four inches deep. Dectector? El cheapo Bounty Hunter Tracker IV, but I tell you - it's not the tool but how you use it :icon_thumleft:

As I was reading that at the same time I pictured the scenario how they were lost.... pretty cool! Can't imagine how much it must have sucked for those people that day. Or did one person have them all? Would seem odd considering what they are.

I guess it is possible that a thief lost these rings while fleeing through the woods. I cannot imagine one person wearing all of that bling, unless there were Victorian rappers!

Nice rings :icon_thumleft: it,s also possible that it is a family grave site many people would bury rings of the dead at the grave :read2: just a suggestion Dd60

I'll give you one other possibility ( my morbid imagination :tongue3:).
There happens to be a cemetery nearby, consecrated in 1854. Nearby meaning about 20 or 30 yards. The rings appear to have belonged to a couple, perhaps wedding and engagement rings.
So.... I'm thinking - Graverobber? dropped a handful while taking off through the woods?
Ahhh.... The possibilities are endless...

That is one incredible find right there or should I say several incredible finds. Congrats on the well deserved Banner. jgas

Wow, thats awesome man!!! Can you convince some people to come to america and lose rings by me!! LOL. I can totally understand why you werent really into detecting after finding 4 gold rings in the same hole. I wouldnt be either! WTG!

This is what Tnet is all about, the way cool digs that make you wonder!! :laughing9:

Cool info and interesting imaginations too! Maybe it was a spot where they were married. When one of them lost their love they returned the rings as a memorial.
I vote go back and find the stones too- definitely a no-brainer!

The magpie bird is great for stealing anything shiny and burying it. But whatever it was those are some great rings.

Hey Congrats!

Heck of a Banner find!

Also GREAT Advice to ALWAYS re-check your hole! One of my better gold rings (at the beach) came from a re-check where the signal was a penny.

Outstanding. Thats more rings than I have found all year from the dirt.

They look like there all high K gold, which means the stones are probably real. I'd go back to the hole with a sifter an try and find the missing stones. They are in the hole somewhere. It would be great if you could reunite them with the ring. What color are the remaining stones?...Rich.

What a great find. Glad you checked your hole. He is right those stones are probably there in that hole. I imagine the weather expanding and contracting might have kicked them loose.
Nice looking Banner!

Wow, :o

Great job on the banner and finds, congratulations !! :headbang:

18k is .750 and 22k is .916 so i'm guessing .820 is 20k :icon_thumleft:

Keep @ it and HH !! ;D :D

FANTASTIC finds! Congratulations! Breezie

First, BANNER!

Second, have sentimental alternative: rings from a couple - buried together near their graves to symbolize their love for each other.

Don't understand the 820 marking. 24 karat gold is pure, or 1.000 fine. So 1 karat equals .04166 fine gold. 20 karat gold would be 0.8332 fine gold; 19 karat gold would be .7915 fine. Usually the decimal point is not included. Thus 20 karat gold would be marked 833 fine, or 833 parts fine gold per 1,000 parts.
