Help identify this rock?
Hello everyone, a contractor had seen this rock in my yard and told me it might be very valuable and collectible, i have a second similar one, could anyone tell me what it is or if it might actually have any value?
Thanks everyone!
So unless it worked the first 4 times I tried, this is my first post on here. I’m not good with geology, but I’ve found a lot of Native American artifacts. These two were found in close proximity. You may not can tell, but the rock in the first four pics has been flaked (given the high impact...
Hi all
I saw this video of a 106lb geode being opened for the first time and I thought you guys might enjoy it.
I can quite catch the name of the geode type on the video. Does anyone know what type it is?
I have a vague idea for some of these but for the most part I'm stumped, I bought a small collection recently and have been looking through my collection from when I was really young and these are the last ones I have to identify. Please let me know if I need to take more pictures or provide...
I posted before but found a pile of all different types of rocks buried in our dirt floor cellar. It appears that someone put them there. Any insight would be great. I took close ups of a few and then a bunch of them. Thank you. Happy New Year!
Hello, First time posting. I have several items that I cannot identify. I found your site and hope that someone can tell me what some of these things are, if anything. I would appreciate any information or comment that you may have.
Hello I'm new to the whole thread thing but excited to show some treasures of mine that ive found and to talk with others about theirs.
I currently am in to rockhounding, im learnjng about the minerals and researching on a ton of rocks my sister had dumped on me in 2011-2012.
So far, since I...
Ive just got REALLY intrested in digging and pick Uu ng creek beds and fields for, whatever cool thing i can find. These come out the same place. I been there playing woodlnd creature everyday fo over a week. I rather be out and away from people and looking at the outside stuff. No way else to...
I found these today while collecting quarts next to a creek in pennsylvania. They're dark green and at first I thought they could be glass but I'm not sure because of how thick they are and how they're shaped. I tried scratching glass with them and it barely leaves a mark, just slightly. Could...
So i bought three and a half fifty gallon barrels from this older fellow who said "back 25 years ago i bought these off of a few fellows who had been collecting them all their lives from many different places" I am still sorting through. But, i am kinda lost at what a lot of them are? i have...
Found these in the desert, the area has a lot of schist, graphite, tin, mica, etc. I was curious as to what these are. Anybody got any ideas? Cassiterite?
Hi everyone,
New here, I stumbled across the forum whilst looking to identify some rocks I obtained whilst beach combing. As the subject line suggests, I have narrowed it down to slag glass or green obsidian, although I am no expert so I welcome any suggestions.
Hardness test - super hard...
I found this while going to a park near my house off the 'side' of the railroad tracks.
I'm wondering if it is mica or some other kind of rock and if it is rare?
p I live in an old mining town near Sutter's Mill/Mine & Governer's Mine; both known tfor recovery of gold. I have read so much about gold ore and seen pictures and watched videos but nothing substitutes experience which I know many of you have. I have more rock pics to. I have broken up a lot...
Hi All.. I was out in the desert today with my trusty Gold Bug and came across these two finds.. One is highly magnetic and looks like slag from a crucible.
Other looks like a possible lunar find, which was 2 feet deep. it doesn't attract a magnet, but has a strong tone. I say this because it...
Hi,
This is my first time posting. I'm new to prospecting. I was searching for a silver vein when I came across these rocks that contain minerals. It was my first time using a metal detector(whites dfx). The rocks were located near a small creek in a mineral rich area. The area is known to hold...
Found this rock today here in California. Not sure if fossils occur on rocks like this.
Showed a few people and they said it looks like a drawing almost.
So, is it a fossil? Or perhaps native American art?
We found this in a thrift store recently. It's pretty cool! I love the rocks on their own, but this lights up like a campfire! It also has an adjustment for brightness. The pics are not at full brightness. I really like it! I think the rock is rose quartz, but I'm not 100% sure.
I am a member of The Gem and Mineral Society of Texas and they recently opened up a store that I think many of yall would find interesting and no I'm not trying to spam the forum. The store sells loose faceted gemstones, IF gemstones, gemstone lots, gold paysand, and rough rocks. Their Paysand...
Attached is a picture of a rock that I found in the North GA mountain area. The outside of the rock is a reddish, light tan color. The inside is mostly dark gray crystals, with some clear, red, and green. While not a heavy rock, it is very dense and extremely hard to break open. I have found...
Howdy y'all,
Come across some huge quartz boulders on a Cliffside today. Had the old pick axe out to look inside and here is what I found.
To me it looks like some kind of iron ore mineralization.
Any other guesses? Greatly appreciative.
We realize that these rocks aren't "treasure", but we're hoping the community can help us identify them. My 11 year old daughter has a school assignment to identify 10 rocks - we randomly picked 10 rocks from the Pacific Coast (beach rocks). We both are having a hard time identifying them and...
Found these rocks on the coast of Nova Scotia, canada (Lunenburg, blue rocks n.s). Oddly, I found one about 17 years ago and found two more two years ago in the exact same area. At first I thought they might be slate (pencils) since there is a lot of slate in that area, but it doesn't write as...
Found this collection at a garage sale a couple years ago for only $15. The fist pic is a collective view of all but the large piece of petriefied wood as shown in the last 2 images. It has crystal growing throughout, and is about 3/4 a foot tall, and 1/2 a foot wide.
Unkown blue crystals ID help please!!
My first post so I thought I would post about this piece.
Me and a friend were in an area where we were digging up quartz crystals, some pretty good size 4-5" long. in about 4 hours we ended up with 2 5 gallon buckets full, we had to be careful because my...
I posted this in my home state forum, MA, but it doesn't get much action so I'm posting a link here. Appreciate any help id'ing this rock structure.

Best Rockhounding spots in Michigan? Got Any? Here's mine.
I'm taking a little trip up the coast of Lake Michigan from Grand Rapids and ending up in the Upper Peninsula west of Marquette a couple hours. I'm looking for suggested stops along the way to rockhound. If you are willing to share...
