I found this site by researching old maps of my area. This site was likely active from 1840 – 1930, when the farm property was sold to a local horse breeder. Upon my arrival early last Sunday morning, I located the site within 15mins and started making good finds right away. The coins I found here were an 1833 ‘To Facilitate Trade Halfpenny Token’, a ‘holed’ 1887 Canada LC, an 1893 Canada LC and a 1919 Canada Quarter. Some of my other finds were a pocket watch key, a harness bell, a musket ball, and a ‘leg-less’ ceramic sheep, the ‘Maple Leaf’ CANADA pin came from another site a mile up the road.

What I didn’t expect to find here was a drone half-buried in the ground. This unit has obviously sustained a lot of plow damage and is missing most of its major components. There’s no camera, it’s missing 3 of its 4 propeller arms and there’s no SD card. I didn’t find any other parts from it over my 6hr hunt of the site. I plan on revisiting this site again in the spring after the cover crop is harvested.

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Maybe there's another MDr thats using a drone to track you dave....just kidding....someone lost a nice drone !! Man thats gotta hurt at current drone prices. Thats like throwing out your detector at the end of the hunt !! Ouch !!

Must have been some deep grass to not have seen the drone when they were plowing... That is some sweet finds. Congrats

This wouldn't surprise me at all Bart, I practically give everything except the GPS coordinates of all the sites I detect too! :laughing7:
In all honesty, I have so many sites to investigate and permissions in my area, that I'm going to be kept busy for years to come.

I like to say... 'There are so many sites, but not near enough time to save everything."

I'm thinking the drone is a few years old now, but I'm no 'drone expert'. :dontknow:
The homes in the background of my pic were built late last year and have only recently become occupied.
So who knows how it got lost here. :icon_scratch:

Thanks for your post kid,
Dave

Nice hunt and great finds, Antiquarian. Love the bell! :hello2:

Nice going on the silver and coppers. Congrats
Liking the watch winder-they don't show up often at the sites.

Get some legs on that poor little lamb will you. :)

Thanks for your post Jim.
In all honesty, I'm not sure what I can do to help the lamb become mobile again? :icon_scratch:

I have an idea... maybe I can make these work. :laughing7:

Nice job Dave!!! The soil is kind to those copper coins!! Are you sure that’s a sheep ?? That would a great name for a punk band “the legless ceramic sheep” just sayin’

That's pretty cool. Very nice 1833 token, I've only found one of those before, I think their design is very original. I never understood why drones were in the fields, my only guess would be they flew it over the grown corn fields when it run out of battery and couldn't find it afterwards.

Lots of goodies there. Congrats on the finds.

Ha! Good name. But not as good as Voodoo Meat Bucket. Not that I was ever in a band with that name... :headbang:

Agree it is not a sheep. It's a bear. Possibly a Hertwig jointed polar bear. Early 1900's.

Man! All that old stuff! I do ok with my walks and finding new stuff. But its this sort of stuff that I truly find fascinating! I have gotten sooooo lazy!!! I used to be pretty good at research! Lately, I've just settled for *easy*. I just *have* to gumption up! For at least a hunt or two.

Very, very nice hunt!

That is what I would call a fun and productive hunt,

Thanks very much Bob.
This property became a horse farm in the 1930s, so I was very surprised at the condition of the coppers.
Horse urine tends to destroy early coppers.

The 'Ceramic Legless Sheep' you guys kill me!

Thanks Anton, I've found 2 or 3 of these over the years and none of them seem to stand up well in the soil.
This one definitely has more details on it, was probably an early loss.

Hope you're having a great fall season buddy,
Dave

Thanks very much mindcrime.
Best of luck to you in Wyoming!

'Voodoo Meat Bucket' Nicccce! :laughing7:

Thank you so much for identifying my ceramic bear Matt, I'll have to research the Hertwig jointed polar bear.
The date of it ties in nicely with the date range on this site.
I'm hoping in the spring this site will produce some earlier finds, as it was likely here in the 1840s - 50s.
Dave

Very, very nice hunt!

As I'm sure you can appreciate Whadi, accurate research is the key to making finds.
Sometimes the eyeball finds are more interesting than what the detector hears.
Often all it takes is a field or creek walk after a heavy rain to make a good find.
Dave

Thank you for your post sir. :icon_thumright:
I love finding early crotal bells, this one looks to have broken loose from a leather string of them on a horse.
Dave

That is what I would call a fun and productive hunt,

Thanks for your post and support my friend!
Hope you're having some good fall detecting in Indiana.

Great ID DCMatt
Why do I have the ZZ Top Legs ear worm now. :laughing7:

Gives you a reason for a return hunt to look for those legs Dave-it also answers my question (in my head) on attaching those legs-Matt's pics answers that nicely showing the wires.:occasion14:
