Before lunch we completed our grid pattern across the entire middle section of the field. My first 2 recordable finds were the fourrée denarius & a hammered, but the Roman Bronzes had trickled out.
So after lunch we both agreed to grid for 2 hours below the main spread of the Roman coins, just to check they had run out in that direction (like we thought). There were no further Roman Coins but Cru'dad gave one of those funny Gold Coin noises, which confused me for a second, as I thought, 'it can't be Celtic Gold so must be a Nice Roman Silver'! Nope....:headbang:

(5 Hours)

Steam Engine Cog? (anyone know?)
Livery Button
Crotal Bell
Roman Steelyard Weight
Late Medieval Buckles
Jetton
3 Scrappies
Silver Plated Roman Coin
James I Halfgroat (Hammered)
1881 Sydney Australia Sovereign (22 Ct Gold mined in Australia)

It's been some years since we last had a modern Gold Coin, & it took 20 acres of systematic searching to pluck this random out of the field. Nearest house is 1 mile & we were not getting any other period finds...:laughing7:

Wow, wow, wow! awesome find.

Killer killer killer... couldn't have happened to a nicer couple of fellows!

That looks like a pretty sizable chuck of gold, but next to a hammered silver I can't tell for sure. I am amazed at all the different types of gold coins that are found in England.

It weights 7.98g (Lost none of its true weight)

H O L Y ~ E F F !!! That Vicky is in such amazing condition. It still puts me beyond believ that way back when people would lose these and NOBODY FOUND THEM!!! That defies all that I believe, due to me picking up everything I see as I walk past. Penny, Dime, Costume jewelry all of it, but a gold coin would give me .... WOOD.

WOW !!!!! Am I missing something here like....... BANNER !!! got my vote! Congrats! Awesome gold coin !!! HH

My congrats to Crudad! :notworthy: He keeps up with you! Beautiful coin. Who's that killing the dragon? Looks like Siegfried the dragonslayer. But on an Australian coin?

I stated late medieval. The 2 Spectacle buckles are circa Tudor, plus the broken Spec Buckles with Shell terminal. The last is circa 16th C & a Spur Strap Buckle. (Square one)

You know that's not true, he never keeps up with me, or is that your last visit?:laughing7: (George & the Dragon)
