Found this in one of the farm fields I've been searching lately.

Only have about 4-5 hours into searching the field.

So far I have found an 1860-64 Fatty Indian Head Penny
1863 Civil War Token...The Tea Store 140 Woodward Detroit.
1911 Wheat Penny
1924 Wheat Penny

Returned again a few nights ago to try out a small coil with my Explorer SE...as the 8" and 10" seem too big. Plus, I only have maybe a week or two before its planted for the season.

Anyway, returned and the 3rd hole I dig out pops this 1822 Large Cent. Not in the best shape, but its my oldest US Coin.

After that...right before I left...I dug the newest coin there so far...a 1945 Mercury Dime.

Congrats on the 1822 LC

Hard to find stuff that old in the Midwest!

Congratz on the LC and silver!

Awesome work! Michigan pride.

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

Nice to see the old ones being dug in MI. Congrats on digging those 2 keepers.

Good to see that oldie still has a good bust and date. Nice one!

Hi; Congrats on that Large Cent. Glad you could get a date off of it. Sometimes they come out so toasted you can't possibly ID them. Good Luck. PEACE:RONB

Congrats on your oldest, always fun to break records

Sounds like a great field site to hunt with a pretty wide age range of finds. Congrats on your oldest US coin. :occasion14:

Thanks for all of the replies.

I returned last night with a friend for about 1.5 hours. Not much time, but that's all the time I had after work.

Only managed 1 coin, but it was an 1863 Indian Head Penny.

I found this site as it was marked as a HOTEL on a pre-1880's map. A few old timers who have stopped in to talk to me mentioned they always heard it referred to as a "Stagecoach" stop. Its in the middle of nowhere...which I like. The place was torn down in the early 1980's. Nobody lived in it since the 60's though...which is nice. So not much modern trash, but lots of old trash/iron. I think that'll keep the potential of this site open for a long time. Especially since its planted/farmed each year.
