Found an 1887 IHC and 1870's Suspender Clip Today!
Haven't posted in quite awhile, but I'm back. The snow has finally melted (most of it) and the ground has thawed, so it was time to hunt! I checked out a new spot today and dug 30 clad coins and two good finds in 2 1/2 hours of detecting.
My best find was an 1887 IHC. Thought it was an 1877 for a minute, but no such luck. It's pretty worn and without a doubt the thinnest IH I've ever found. Obviously in circulation for a long time, but at least the date is legible.
My other good find was a beat up 1870's (or so) suspender clip. Nothing thrilling, but the 1871 patent date is a good sign. Two pre-1900 finds in one spot gets me excited. Could be some old silver coins in the area. Going to be 60 degrees on Friday, so I'll be hitting this spot again very soon.
Here's a few pics. Sorry about the grubby fingers!
