Went back to the woods today where I found the Militia Waist Belt Plate. Found this button about 200 yards away from where I found the plate. It still has a good amount of gilt on it. I tried to ID it by looking on the net, but couldn't find anything similiar. I'm assuming it's New York State, but I was wondering if anybody out there could help me out with it. Gribnitz? PBK? Thanks. The button was real hard to photograph. The three photos below don't do it justice; it looks a lot better in real life. Also there appears to be a back mark, but its too hard to read.

Great find! New York Militia. c. 1800-15. Looks like Albert's #NY 9; Tice's #NY040-A. Can't read the backmark. Tice values it at $100, but I recently saw two listed at $160 and $185.

PBK, Seeker, you guys are the best. Thanks alot. When I first looked on the net, I did see a page mentioning an eagle on a globe, but I didn't realize that the eagle is on a globe, I couldn't make it out. I guess it's safe to assume that this button and the belt plate are probably connected. By the way, the woods I am hunting is not virgin forest, there was a homestead there at one time, and there is a grave way back in the woods with the headstone reading that the person died in 1748.
Thanks again for your help! By the way, I'm going to buy that button book!

Makes me wonder who the person is buried way back in the woods. 1748 is a long time ago....
