Hello out there Tnetters. Its been a while since I've posted. For that matter, it's been a while since i've been out with my detector. However, I made some time today and met up with my buddy Steve for a hunt. We had minimal success at our first site (a farm that dates back to the 1700's) so we decided to hit a site that we hit last year. It's a house site that dates back to 1790 and is still currently in use. We decided to hunt in the tilled garden area that we had recovered a few coppers from last year.

We had a pretty good day. I found two large coppers, one of which is a King George I (1721) in excellent condition. Not able to ID the second copper. Hopefully after a cleaning i might get something. The buffalo Nickel is a no date and was lying right on the surface in the garden. Here are a few pics of my finds for the day.

Scroll down a few replies for cleaned pics of the King George as well as pictures of my buddy Steve's copper. (1806 draped bust large cent.)

Does anyone know what the object in the last picture is? The King George was added for a size comparison.

Very nice condition KGI. I've found an item almost identical to the one in your last pic also. It was found at a home dating to the latter half of the 18th century. Great finds!!

Nice 1721, I like finding the KGI coppers, they usually held up fairly well in the ground and kind of neat having them with the date readable! :hello2:

Man that is a killer find. I was wondering if you would get the fever again to detect. I'm happy you are back into it again. I would love to find a KG I. Especially in that shape. Congratulations and welcome back. :headbang:

I would say try Don's hot peroxide method.....followed by a nice coat of bees wax. If you're unfamiliar, theres a post about the method in the cleaning section of this site I think. Heat some peroxide for about 30 to 40 seconds in the microwave. drop the coin in. the dirt will bubble away. the only problem is if your coin is corroded in any way it might not come out so well after this treatment. After you get it out of the peroxide give it a nice hot water soak for a while. It might still have a greenish color to it. If it does, coating the coin in wax will alleviate this problem.

Nice condition too! I think I might have a George I for about every two years detecting, always great to see. (I like em even more as a sign of how old the site might be and what could be left) I believe my last one was the 1717. (dump issue)
