First day out in Switzerland after spending time in California with Goldwasher and QNCrazy.

A good day especially given I was trying out my new classifier at the top of the sluice. I built a wooden frame to stop it affecting the flow through the sluice.

Nice gold my friend. Beautiful area. Reminds me of the North Fork Yuba River here in California. Those flakes have a rough texture to them. You might be close to the source.

Hey Rock man, you almost landed on the streak! Do you see how that gravel bar is sorted? It looks like the larger cobbles are placed toward the center of the bar. I'd be willing to be that the center of the bar holds even better gold! Great to see journals from elsewhere than the US!! Keep the pics coming. Also I'd go looking for cracks in that bedrock! If the gravel bars are loaded the cracks should be juicy as well!!

Nice bright gold Daryl. Have you dug up at that bend? Upstream in the picture in line with your sluice and that log segment. You can see there is an area concentrating material where the water comes around that bend.

Makes me want to go back to CH, well done!

Thanks all... I've run the place where the big log is about 2 years ago... and it was great. The bedrock is only about 2 feet deep there so it accumulates.

Thanks GrizzlyGremlin... you know I've never really thought about that... perhaps I'll have a look.

Is it possible to run a dredge where you are Rookman? With bedrock that shallow, and crystalline coarse gold, you could wipe out all of those gravel bars in no time. If the gold is consistent that dredge would be paid for in full!!

Pretty sure you can't run motors where he is. It was hard enough to find a place that let's you dig.

Yep... nothing with a motor in it... ho hum

It was Rob Goreham from 49er mining supplies that gave me the idea... cant claim any credit myself.

I have spent the week thinking about how to put a hinge on the wooden frame so I can just tip out the rocks....

Finally got out again after lots of rain and far too many family duties... it was one awesome day after too long... culminating in a wonder flake...ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1463320753.141860.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1463320796.760643.jpg

Rain Rain Rain....:tongue3:

Forecast was for early rain and then sun.. but it just kept on coming... I managed 6 hours before my bedraggled hounds demanded to leave.... on the plus side my hunch about where to dig proved correct and I have a nice line to work now.

Some nice gold in the sluice... havnt worked it through as I couldn't stand the torrent any longer!

Update: Added picture after clean up... was a good day after all ...🙂

Convergence

Found a new place on friday afternoon... I called it convergence because it was where 2 old river flows come together... went on a hunch and after 20 minutes digging the flakes started coming properly.

Found more gold than my last 3 trips combined... I like it when that happens :)

Quite a bit of iron too! Anyone know what the other mineral/metal is?

Awesome gold! See if that mystery piece will break or bend, scrape it on the pan or something see if it leaves a streak. Could be lead but it looks like it has a sharp fracture which would be something crystalline like galena maybe.

Will do and will post back...

update: have posted back in the gold prospectors forum.

Convergence 2

Woke up at 5... had a gold bug so just had to go back to Convergence from last week. There has been so much rain I assumed the dig would have filled in... but no... so spent the day working near bed rock.

Quite a mine site now with dig, spoil tip and tailings

GT.......................

Flood flake falls

Aaaarrr.... disaster.... I headed back to the place I've been for the last few trips in the hope of clearing bedrock... but it's all filled in with sand and pebbles from heavy rain... at least 4ft of it....

Moved upstream to a likely looking boulder and dug under it... found some nice stuff but am still peeved about not cleaning out the last place.

ho hum... thats it now for a good few weeks... we're off to non gold locations... enjoy the summer
