This is probably none of my business and you certainly didn't ask my opinion but, I don't think the microwave is the problem. I have the same issue with grilled foods.

if the image is an HDR shot, the camera takes several different shots at different settings then combines them for the final Image.
if there was movement, ie the scratching, sometimes the results create a bizarre hybrid.. lol
